Tacking riders onto existing bills happens to nearly every bill passed. Not only is it legal, but it is allowed for good reason (expediency). Some added riders are more heinous then others and breach the basis for why riders are allowed, but these examples are hardly bad ones.

They surely do not rise to the level of the current scandals facing the Republican party. Comparing the addition of riders to bills to politicizing the justice department’s hiring/prosecuting tactics, lying about a war and citing “executive privelage”, or taking bribes to pass legislation, is akin to comparing an “apple” to “shame”.

You might want to develop a sense of proportion. Adding to bills is something both parties do. Yes, is raises the costs.

Politicising our legal system, allowing torture, trampling on the constitution threatens our very way of life and can threaten our lives themselves. This is something the Bush administration does.

Can you see the enormity of the difference?

That's because it's ok when their side does it. It's only bad when the person doing it has an R next to their name. Left wing hypocrites.

I simply wanted to show both sides do this crap and it takes away from the People to see what is going on. I started another thread because when you try and state the fact that the other side is also in the wrong You get the TJO neg rep,

It isn't for expediency, it is used to slide stuff by that wouldn't normally make it through a vote. That is why both sides participate in the misuse of the intent.
Say you are voting on rode construction. Any piggybacking should pertain to the bill being discussed. So yu could vote to build a road and piggyback a bridge or two in key areas of concern. Now that would be a legitimate piggyback.

Now let us say you are voting on making it mandatory for school buses to stop at all railroad crossings and making the driver physically have to open his door and look both ways before attempting to cross the tracks. This is a safety issue that's concern is for the best interest of the children across the US. Now piggybacking a pay raise for congress on a bill that nobody is going to stop because they will be branded as someone who hates kids in the next election, not to mention what person n their right mind wouldn't vote to give themselves a pay raise, is not expediting the process?

This is an example of misuse of power and piggybacks of this nature need to be curtailed if not completely eliminated.

Thanks Buck your example was far better than mine and explained my view even better than I could have!

Let's follow the general logic of this thread:

1) if you run out of arguments or somebody exposes your hypocrisy than we call each other names!!

2) Just because one sides lies and corruptions are smaller then the others they are ok? I hate to bring it you guys in either case we are screwed.
This whole media managed left against right only serves one goal...to detract from the fact that our government as a whole is incompetent.

Defending one side or the other accomplishes nothing, especially if both sides are acting like a horse's patoot, rationalizing their own improprieties by accusing the other side of doing it too, or heaven forbid first.
