For reference, I have very little time for the French, and even less time for religion (God Schmog, the strongest survive). But I 100% agree with the French decision to ban ALL religious symbols within schools. What these idiots kidnapping French Civvies in Iraq, insisting the French Government do a u-turn on the banning of Muslim headscarves seemed to have overlooked......is that the Jewish skullcap and Cross of St.Christoper have also been banned.

I dont agree, I think these symbols DO do harm.

They create divisions, misunderstanding. They make the wearer an obvious target, instead of trying to stand out in a foreign country, why not concentrate on trying to blend in and fit in instead? When in Rome.........

My understanding is that a true Muslim girl not only would not appear in public uncovered, but would also not attend a co-ed school. Muslims are already making some concessions, but I don't see the harm in allowing them to wear a headscarf.

In public, fine. In schools, no. If by making all kids look the same in school, be they Muslim, Jew, Christian, teaches them that they ARE indeed all the same beneath all the religious claptrap, then go for it.
