yea ... it's those burial sites that may be the problem with the opponents of expanded nuclear

Short term storage is not a problem, the Navy has de-com'd over 70 subs with nuclear reactors, they cut out the reactor compartments and store them for 50 years and then recycle the metals. They don't stay hot like you may have been told for ten thousand years. Decommissioning is happening around the globe on older reactor designs in favor of newer more powerful and efficient ones.

People need to be educated when it comes to nuclear energy and they are fed fear mongering bullcraap.

5400+ working years of clean nuclear power.

but again, the industry does not put out current information which would eliminate the alarm people have about the long term consequences of nuclear residue storage
it's as if the industry is trying to hide that situation from the public

We should build nuclear power plants as fast as we can, but first, we should build a large asylum to house all the fools with all the red tape. If they want electricity at the asylum, they can fly a kite.

Long term? you mean it cools down over time? Is that what you're talking about?

yep, in addition to spent fuel you have spent facilities which remain radioactive. what is the long term solution to disposing of those wastes such that it will not impose an environmental hazard. to me, that is the singular issue which prevents nuclear power from rebounding

You know uranium is radioactive and is a naturally occurring element, you eat it when you consume vegetables, it's more than likely under your fingernails if you have any dirt under them. If you hug or sleep with another human being you are exposed to radiation, my watch is radioactive, heck every watch I ever owned is radioactive what are you worried about? Do you hide inside from the Sun? Oh and more people by far get cancer from exposure to the Sun and there's no hysteria about that, people are hilarious.

n France, as of 2002, Électricité de France (EDF) — the country's main electricity generation and distribution company — manages the country's 59 nuclear power plants. As of 2008, these plants produce 87,5% of both EDF's and France's electrical power production (of which much is exported),[1] making EDF the world leader in production of nuclear power by percentage. In 2004, 425.8 TWh out of the country's total production of 540.6 TWh was from nuclear power (78.8%).[1]

France is the world's largest net exporter of electric power, exporting 18% of its total production (about 100 TWh) to Italy, the Netherlands, Britain, and Germany, and its electricity cost is among the lowest in Europe.[1][2]

In 2006, the French Government asked Areva and EDF to build a next generation nuclear reactor, the EPR (European Pressurized Reactor), at the Flamanville Nuclear Power Plant. This was followed in 2008 by an Presidential announcement of another new EPR, spurred by high oil and gas prices.[3] A site for that unit should be selected in 2009, and construction should start in 2011.

They even reprocess the waste to make more energy. It makes me feel dirty to know the French Government is smarter about this than ours.
