Default What if we could vote for V.P. also?

What if on the ballet there was a place to vote for V.P. also? Has anyone put any thought into this idea. It just came to me last night. Maybe others have already had this idea i don't know. And what if you could cross party lines and vote a Dem for Pres and a Rep for V.P.? Could something like this work? Or is this a dumb idea? What are your thoughts?

It's an interisting idea to say the least. It certianly would shake things up a bit and completly change the dynamics of the election.

Well they tell you before november who they'll be running with. So you really vote for both of them. (V.P included)

What if you like one guy but not the other? I was just thinking that maybe we should choose the V.P. As it stands we have no say in who will be V.P.
McCain and Obama will make that choice for us.

Before constitutional reform, the Electoral College used to cast two votes for POTUS and the runner up was the VP.

In Virginia the Governor and Lt. Governor are voted on separately and in many cases a member of both parties win one or the other. It works but I wouldn't want to see this in a Presidential race. Too many negative reasons why this is a bad idea.

Because of party clashes on policy, the constiutional reform was necessary.

As you pointed out, sometimes members of opposite parties are sometimes voted in. This happened with Adams as President and Jefferson as VP. They clashed over foriegn policy due to their party differences. After the election of 1800, which was more complicated, the 12th admendment was adopted.
