Hunger spreads in South Sudan due to corruptions and maladministration
The people of Elaik area in Warab State in South Sudan have called on the UN to interfere to rescue them from hunger and what they called the lack of food in their area. The citizens of the area, which belong to Kungur tribe, have said that about 20 persons were killed due to hunger while about 7000 were forced to leave for neighboring areas.
Rebecca GarangThe citizens attributed this lack of food to the weakness of the security in South Sudan and to the ignorance of the Government of South Sudan to this vital issue.
Sources in the Government of the South Sudan did not dismiss the issue but said that the lack of funding was the reason behind the hunger.
Apart from the reasons of this sorrowful reality, the obvious truth the Government of South Sudan is trying to hide is the negligence of the Government of South Sudan, which receives its share of oil revenues on monthly basis , to the citizens of the region.
According to sources in the federal Ministry of finance, the share of oil revenues of the Government of South Sudan is enough for providing the South with the basic services if the government of South Sudan was not suffering from corruption.
The corruption in South Sudan has reached a serious stage a thing that pushed the Sudanese First Vice President and President of South Sudan Government, Salva Kiir, to establish a commission for fighting corruption.
However, the anti-corruption commission is still suffering from real difficulties.
Rebecca Garang, the widow of the late SPLM leader, has lately criticized the leadership of the Government of South Sudan, casting doubts over the richness of some senior government leaders in the South Sudan Government.
She has elaborated on the spread of corruption and the necessity of handling it.
Thus, the First Vice President and President of Government of South Sudan is asked to move toward putting an end to this phenomenon.
