Bill Gates is a proven economic genius who would know how to run the country without letting it sink into debt. Steinbrenner is a shrewd businessman who isn't afraid to make sudden and major changes if something clearly isn't working, and doesn't give a crap if a few whiners don't like it.
I like the idea of a successful business person. We could use the help with the economy. That's a fine point to make. If they pick a good cabinet someone like Gates could make a shift.

Of those eligable to be president I would love to see a Kucinich/Nader ticket and a Paul/Perot ticket sure they are really polar opposits when it comes to the economy but I believe they won't put vested interests take over their good judgement.

That said I would vote for Bill Gates as the president. Although I don't really know what this domestic policies are I believe that he would be able to get teh economy back on track while withstanding some sort of morality.

If a business person I'd rather see Warren Buffet than Bill Gates. With Bill you'd have occasions where government just shuts down for a while for no reason, or the government goes blank and new memory has to be installed. Also you'd have all those government employees off with viruses all the time.

With Buffet he'd invest tax revenue in something that pays a better dividend than bombs.

Easy for you to say Doug, you don't live here in the U.S., you won't be stuck with the eventual winner (or loser in many people's minds). Come to America, we've love having you. I hope no American bases his/her vote on who people of other countries think should be OUR President. Doug, prepare for your country's experiment is socialism, then get back to us.

I doubt very much that would happen, at least directly. But I think most Americans want someone who will represent them well on the world stage, whom they can be proud of.

I would add that for the most part POTUS have been generally respected in the world - current President aside of course. Clinton for sure was very well liked. I saw a poll recently somewhere that he is still the most popular American in the world. Bush Sr. was respected as was Ford, Reagan and Carter. Reagan was a bit of a caricature in some respects but I think most people liked him.

I don't necessarily need a President that the world likes or respects. I want a President that is standing up for America even against world opinion. President Reagan and both Bush's are

Carter and Clinton

The sad thing is I voted for all of them and have only been disappointed when I voted Democrat.

It seems like money plays a huge role in that. If they don't show success early, the money doesn't come in and the candidate drops out quickly.

I would pick me. Ralph Nader would be my VP. I know I'm honest. We would look out for welfare of all Americans. Our goal would not simply to be elected but to the help educate the American people more to what government is and bring the business of government back to the people. Our policy would be to make our government as open as possible, using the power of the internet.

Government is not something that exists outside of us, it is a part of who we are, especially the role of a Democratic government. Right wingers who constantly whine about taxes would be given the option of a one way ticket to another country. How government money is spent would be available on the internet down to the penny, which would put pressure on departments to use their resources wisely. In effect, since their spending would be available (unlike private industry), they would spend more efficiently.

On the left side of the ticket, Wes Clark and Bill Richardson
On the right side, Ron Paul and Sarah Palin.

There's a very short list of politicians I I actually respect. This darn near depletes it.
