I know I'm sounding horribly anti american here, but who cares
As I understand it USA has military bases in countries around Russia, so why can't russia do the same around USA? they have plenty of friends, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Cuba etc. why not supply them all with weapons and nukes for protection against some imaginary enemy?

I don't know.At the moment America has big strategical advantage with missiles and bases surrounding Russia.Maybe Russia doesn't have enough funds to do it but I don't think so.

They tried it once, and that didn't work out for them.

Cancel my vote, I didn't read the choices very well. I don't think they will do that, it doesn't make very much sense. Their land and sea based ICBMs can do the job from where they are. The only thing they could base this close are tactical missiles that can be shot down fairly easily. Their threat to base missiles close to us seems to be more political gamesmanship than a serious threat.
