Default John McCain The Woosie?

When did John McCain morph into such a woosie?

Tucker Bounds, John McCain’s spokesman, went on CNN to discuss Sarah Palin’s selection as running mate. He wasn’t ambushed into appearing, he voluntarily appeared on the network to answer questions. Campbell Brown asked him a simple question about Sarah Palin. He didn’t answer it. She asked the question again. He started discussing another topic. Again, he was asked the question. He attempted to change the subject again. He never answered, he never even attempted to answer the question.

Tucker Bounds went on CNN to answer questions, CNN’s questions. Instead he wanted to give their talking points, not reply to questions. The CNN anchor did her job. She asked questions. That’s not unfair, it’s just how journalism works. If you know the answer there’s no threat. He didn’t even attempt to answer, even with a flavored, measured answer. He just tried to change the subject.

Later the Los Angeles Times reported that the McCain camp was not pleased. Jon Klein, president of CNN issued a statement in support of Brown’s interview. “Campbell Brown did what journalists do,” Klein said Tuesday evening. “She asked fair and important questions in a respectful way and was simply trying to get a straight answer to a straightforward question.” It was an interview, not a forum for a Republican speech.

Apparently the “Straight Talk Express” doesn’t like that straight talk.
The next day CNN anchorman Wolf Blitzer announced on air that John McCain’s planned interview with Larry King had been canceled by the campaign. Blizter said McCain aides complained that Campbell Brown had gone “over the line” in her grilling of Tucker Bounds. John McCain is afraid of Larry King? Larry King’s interviews are nothing but softballs, but apparently that was far too scary for John McCain.

The candidate that calls his campaign the “Straight Talk Express” is terrified of straight talk if he can’t control the questions. The candidate that wants you to think he’s a real macho guy, capable of facing down Vladimir Putin of Russia, al-Qaeda, Kim Jong-il of North Korea, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran, or any other head of state cowers in fear at having to face Larry King.

That’s some straight talk John McCain certainly doesn’t want to hear about. Meanwhile, Barack Obama has accepted an invitation to appear Thursday night on Bill O’Reilly’s program. That’s hardly a neutral or even friendly environment for any Democrat, but he’s not afraid to enter the dragon’s lair and face his adversaries.

Scared of facing Larry King? That would be laughable if it was about anyone other than someone that wants to become Commander in Chief.
