In today’s world a liberal believes that an individual is not responsible for where they are in life. A liberal believes that no one is responsible for the consequences of their actions, its society's fault.

A liberal believes that government and is big brother and that if only we lay down our arms the rest of the world will do so as well.

A liberal believes that its governments responsibility to take care of the poor, and help out the middle class. Rich people are rich because they are in bed with the government or are stealing from the rest of the people and should share a large portion of their wealth for those less fortunate then themselves.

A conservative believes that a person is responsible for their choices in life. They are free to try to become rich, free to fail, free to chose the security of a job and become middle class. If a person decides to screw up his life it’s his fault and he pays the price.

A conservative believes that there are evil countries and people in the world who wish to destroy our country and harm Americans. Only a strong military and intelligence organization can prevent this.

Many people thing conservatives are religious Christians but it’s the Christians that have tried to hijack the conservative’s party. Most conservatives just want to be rewarded for our successes and are when we fail we take full responsibility for our mistakes and failures. We only want other to take responsibility for their mistakes and failures as well.

In my mind the defining characteristic of a "liberal" is someone who puts the needs of the many above their own personal selfish/greedy goals - in politics

But asking what a liberal is. Depends on what you’re asking. I am a Social Liberal, but Financially Conservative. Where today most Liberals are both social and financial Liberals, which are the worst form, just like Social and Financial Conservatives.
