Bob Barr and the Libertarian Party have compromised some of the ideals behind libertarianism to meet the political climate and realities of today. It is the pragamtic approach realizing the America could not instantly become a libertarian society if a Libertarian were elected president today.

He is endorsing many of the Libertarian positions right out of the gate though such as ending the war on drugs, reducing and eventually eliminating US interventionism in the sovereign affairs of other nations, ending domestic spying, and actually reducing the size of the US government (i.e. not just reducing it's growth).

He claims he has changed and regrets his old anti-libertarian positions. I just hope he's telling the truth.

There is no way of know for sure but if he has then he followed exactly the same path that I did in enbracing the libertarian philosophies. He still holds some positions that I am opposed to such as using "Black Ops" to achieve tactical objectives.

In any case his position is far superior to either Obama or McCain which is why I am supporting him for president. He doesn't fit into the catagory of the "Lessor or two evils" which would prevent me from supporting him at all.

You're right, he's no libertarian, he's a conservative and an opportunist. Of course, it's just proof that the conservatives have hijacked the LP.
