Default How can McCain say he wants everyone to be rich?

How is that possible? Isn't this just debased populism, and an eternal carrot on a stick?

Maybe he will put everyone on welfare and let them collect benefits, or perhaps he has a few million stashed away and is feeling generous...

mccain is a 72 year old and his biggest accomplishment was living in a box. cut him some slack.

I'm serious though, this is in many ways the core of the right's arguments- be it economic or enviromental- that there is always more to go around. It just doesn't add up.

But its so annoying! When I first brought it up here someone mentioned the possibility of netting passing asteroids for their metal(!) while at the same time saying we didn't actually need any more resources.

Quick thing conservitives- in this glorious McCain styled future, how will we rich have servants?

Robots, duh. one day when manual labor is not needed any more, everyone will be rich.... well, either that or the owners of the robots will be rich, and everyone else will be jobless and die off from starvation... but either way, once dead, everyone remaining will be rich!

See I thought of robots too, which helps illustrate the sheer craziness. Same as asteroids- one day maybe, but no time soon.

And as you say, hardly guarenteed then anyway. Personally I assume labour will be replaced by robots, then consumption, then ownership. We're dead/made of nanobots by that time btw. 'Tis a sad thing people will fall for it.

as much as i still have trouble with socialist/communist ideas, in these extreme situations I think their points shine through more brightly... Ownership of limited resources, particularly the means of livelihood, can be deadly in a situation where those who own no longer need the labor of those who don't. Similar to a recession/depression where the owners/managers who no longer are better off paying for labor will lay people off (as they should). But this is just in extreme circumstances, nothing like the condition of our economy today. There is a need for stupid people well into the foreseeable future.
