It is a slogan used in socialist and police states. It means that the right of the individual does not come first. You are never going to see it in a democracy.

It's also not original. the Romans used it 'Pro Patria' to build patriotism for their empire. My own country used it in apartheid days under the slogan of Vir volk en Vaderland which has the same general meaning. The Russians used it in the whole 'Mother Russia' sentiment.

so not only is it hollow and meaningless, it is also unoriginal and old, very much like the change mantra which reminds me a bit of both Magaret Tatcher an Blairs elections.

Country first means for republicans: Corporations first, Wealthy donors first, Dean Baker explains this point of view well in the conservative nanny state. Notice the only people getting bailed out are corporations that fail, the working people get walmart wages and outsourcing as gifts.

John McCain entered Annapolis through rich man's affirmative action for the connected. A vote for McCain/Palin is a vote for the privileged class.

Of course it's all about the oil. Every single thing we do in the Middle East is either about oil or religion. Usually both.
If it wasn't for the fact that those are Muslims sitting on oil that we and our allies need and wish to destroy the world's largest Jewish settlement, we wouldn't have anything at all to do with the middle east.

It's all about $$$ and Power the candidates don's give a hoot about you an me. They will sell their souls to get elected and folks like you get wrapped up in the facade and continue to loose. Get a job, work out, love your family and friends, vote for the guy that won't kill babies and don't waste your breath complaining...life is too short

The key and critical distinction is that authoritarian regimes tell people to do so. In Democracies our leaders ask.

Plus I think he's more talking about himself in this case.
