I don't beleive that he thinks trade wih oher nations is bad, but having an upside down trade ratio is bad and being dependent on another country for the energy that drives your economy has Obvious risks!

It seems fundamentally sound to me.
I just wondered what someone who knows more than I do about energy has to say about it!
The "problem" is people thinking he has some underlying anti-American agenda, His ideas are sound and been understood by Electrical Engineers for decades. The problem I see with peoples understanding is that most pick the Wind and Solar (which are great) not recognizing that those forms will never supply enough reliable electrical energy supply. Natural Gas would be a great fuel to use in automobiles and busses to help get us away from imported oil. It's cleaner and abundant here in the USA.

Developing OUR OWN resources keeps investment and jobs in the United States. Keeps money in OUR economy.

The biggest problem I see with Boone's plan is the lack on transmission capacity. Then planting 4 Mgw Vestas in Kansas or North Texas isn't going to bring power to California and the NIMBY crowd here and elsewhere won't allow them along the coast here in California or out in Kennedyland.

The only thing missing is clean nuclear energy. The only massive source of clean energy that is available 24/7 in unmatched amounts. Nothing even comes close except Coal which is dirty.

But the total cost of running on natural gas is much more than the total cost of running on gasoline. You have to look at all of the consequences of a proposed action and all of the benefits of that action before you make a decision on it. The costs of this outweigh the benefits.

There isn't a fundamental problem with having a trade imbalance, it simply means that sometime in the future, the imbalance will go the other way.

And there isn't risk in being dependent on the rest of the world for energy. There isn't going to be some world agreement not to sell energy to the US signed tomorrow, it wouldn't be in the interest of the rest of the world not to sell that energy.

Default anyone ever heard of ....

Micheal Milken...T. Boone Pickens was in the middle of the corporate raids in the 80's with strong ties to Micheal Milken, and now here he is pitching a plan for alternative energy, that he wants you to go to congress and get approved. Always ever vigilant to use someone else to get what he wants.

First he stole S&L money, now hes trying to steal tax money, and your money.

So who do you feel should have their "alternative energy activity" underwritten?

Why not him he has already invested a billion in wind. He needs transmission to bring it to market. That falls under government control eminent domain and all.

I just read The Picken's Plan and top to bottom everything stated makes sense to me. Wind power should be harnessed. Natural gas is not the panacea but it is plentiful and cleaner.

People in the USA have some choices to make; do you wish to have everything funded by the federal government, raising taxes or raising the $53 trillion debt? Or can you put aside petty jealousies about people and the private sector making profits while they are helping to invest in the future of the USA?

To resolve the dependence on oil, and deal with myriad climate and environmental concerns, it will not be accomplished with one magic bullet. It will require new technologies in solar, wind, wave, natural gas, nuclear, hydrogen, electric cars, and stuff we don't even know about today, as well as the conduit to bring all of these alternatives to the consumer!

I'm not surprised in this thread about all the naysayers, but it is obvious to me, that we as a nation, are not going to move a single inch ahead, until we can focus on the issues, focus on the alternatives, and work together to find consensus or unity, and then work our asses off moving this nation in a better and more sustainable direction...

Explain, please.

With sources to back up that statement if possible.
