Default September 11, 2001 – REVISITED

It will soon be the seven year anniversary of the events that will go down in history as events that have shaped the beginning of the 21st century. They are events that not only have shaped the direction of the United States, but have also had a global effect.

America was shaken up by the horrific events of September 11 and there have been many corrupt political leaders that have used this tragedy for political and financial gain, which has lead to the travesty in Iraq. Costing America trillions of dollars, an untold number of lives lost or destroyed and worldwide respect.

As a nation, in our attempts to heal and understand what happened, has heard many explanations of things unexplainable and theories of conspiracy. Americans have witnessed their Constitutional rights stripped away in the name of the war on terror and have put way too much faith in what has been seen as a corrupt government.

Seven years after the day America was attacked, Americans feel less safe, succumbing to the fear tactics deployed by the very government that was elected and has sworn to protect its citizens and constitution.

Osama bin Laden, the person allegedly responsible for the attacks, must feel proud of the success these attacks have gotten. His stated goal was to bankrupt America and destroy our freedoms and democracy. With the help of George Bush and the other corrupt political Republican leaders, he can claim “Mission Accomplished.”

The economic impact of September 11 is just part of the picture in this seemingly never ending story. Health problems for the people in New York as well as the rescue workers is an issue that people have a difficult time talking about. Try to fathom the numbers of people who have died as a result of the fallout from the destruction that day.

What about the destruction done to our Constitution? The foundation of our democracy. The very foundation of our country.

American citizens are now subject to wide sweeping, undefined laws that violate our rights that are guaranteed us in the Constitution. We have been subject to government controlled spying and as we have seen from the peaceful protests at the RNC and DNC these last few weeks, militaristic police abridging our right to peaceably assemble.

This is NOT the America I loved prior to the events of September 11, 2001. The day that America was attacked and our freedoms stripped away. This is NOT the America I grew up in and I don’t fully blame September 11.

I don’t even fully blame George Bush and his corrupt administration of greedy criminal minions.

I blame us. The American people who have allowed things to get this bad in the first place. From supporting a political party and President out of fear to sitting back and allowing the immunity granted the telecoms for their crimes, I blame the American citizenry.

But, as American’s, we learn from the mistakes of the past. We grow and gain strength in numbers as more and more people awake to the realization of what the last eight years has meant for America.

And we will NOT be fooled again.

The September 11 attacks were a series of coordinated events perpetrated against the people of the United States. As a nation, we were hurt, stunned and in shock from the enormity of the horror that fateful day seven years ago.

But as a nation, we have healed.

And learned.

What Have We Learned Since 9/11 is a book that outlines my thoughts on what our country has learned looking back at the events of September 11, 2001.

I offer this book to anyone that requests a copy. A donation would be appreciated.
