That was then, this is now. Those people did not have access to 24/7 news from around the world and the internet. People are a lot more informed now.

I merely pointed out that saying 20% hasn't been true historically, however one would have thought that access to information would make the idea of secession more likely, no?

No. Because a lot of potential reasons for secession can be resolved without seceeding by understanding the opposing party's views. Information exchange facilitates that process. We have acess to more information than Revolutionary era Americans were capable of comprehending.
