Nice title for a post, and what do you know, it rhymes. Only a kook, or a left wing madman, would say that nice, sweet, charming Governor Palin has something in common with Uncle Joe Stalin. (During WWII, Stalin was referred to in Government news as Uncle Joe.)

It is amusing since I am against abortion, against gun control, in favor of allowing the use of schools for prayer meetings, and in many other ways in agreement with Ms. Palin that I should turn out to be the crazy, left wing nutcase, who points out the psychological similarities between her and Uncle Joe.

Still, it is her psychological and emotional similarities to Josef Stalin which I find disturbing. She comes from a strongly religious background and is a creationist.

He came from a strongly religious background and also rejected Darwinian evolution.

It is a fairly well known fact of history that Stalin rejected Darwin and ordered all scientific research in the USSR to be based on Lamarck's theory of evolution instead of Darwin's theory of evolution.

Now, I am sure I know a great deal more about the history and relative merits of Lamarck vs. Darwin, the scientific controversy which raged over their contesting theories in the 19th century, the reasons why Darwin emerged triumphant and current scientific discoveries supporting Lamarck than any of you do.

In fact, most of you probably do not even know who Lamarck was. All of that aside. It is not the point.

What is the point is the manner in which Palin and Stalin evaluate science. Stalin disliked Darwin because it was passive, not masculine enough. He liked Lamarck more because it was more macho.

Palin dislikes Darwin because she does not liek the idea of being related to monkeys.

Both Palin and Stalin believe that the way they feel about a scientific theory is a valid basis for accepting or rejecting it as science.

Now Stalin wasted millions possibly billions of dollars of research money in the USSR on programs based on Lamarckian evolutionary theory.

I do not want to see Palin waste millions, possibly billions of dollars on research programs designed to prove the literal truth of the Old Testament.

People who believe in Creationism they way Palin does are scary frightening people. They have to potential to do enormous harm. They are just like Stalin in their attitudes about their opinions vs. the facts. Their opinions trump the facts every time.

There idea of an expert is someone who massages the facts to cater to their feelings. The idea that actual, factual reality does exist is alien to their mindsets.

So, Sarah Palin frightens me. Creationists frighten me.

More than that, I disapprove of them because I really respect Jesus. Creationism has nothing to do with the teachings of Jesus. I challenge you to find one thing in Jefferson's Bible which idealizes Jesus as the greates moral teacher in history, which says a single word about Creationism.

There is nothing which makes a real connection between Creationism and Christian Salvation.

Yet Creationists maintain that unless you accept their ideas you are condemned to heck for all eternity.

They create an issue which allows them to rejoice in the eternal condemnation and suffering of their fellow human beings which has nothing to do with anything Jesus taught.

Are people who sit around rejoicing in the spectacle of their fellow human beings suffering in heckfire for all eternity really good Christians?

Creationisn smells of sulfur and brimstone. Instead of emphasizing the moral precepts of the Prince of Peace, it emphasizes an imaginary issue to allow its followers to rejoice in the eternal condemnation of their fellow beings.

It leads people away from the real teachings of Jesus to the worship of false idols or irrelevant doctrines that have no foundation in Jesus teaching at all.

I cannot look at Creationism and see anything but the corruption of the Church by the spirit of the AntiChrist.

I firmly believe that Creationists are dancing with the devil and in serious danger of eternal condemnation themselves.

And yes, in this way, Sarah Palin scares me.

Can you supply a link or reference to this claim. I have read a number of exhaustive biographies on Stalin, and have never encountered anything to suggest he supported one type of theory over any other
