If that's wry humour then it works.

If it's meant to be taken seriously then it proves the point made in the first post in the thread.

I think there is a bit of truth in the premise of this thread. Conservatives tend to be reactionary while liberals tend to be open to new ideas. If you notice today the republicans are trying their best to steal "change" from the democrats. Fundamentally, I think republicans are conservatives, democrats liberals. Republicans cannot look at the record of Bush et al and be proud. The deficits alone would make any sensible person hide from their party's record. But there is a personality component too to both ideological stances and conservatives react badly when their worldview is challenged.

The study below is mostly true in my experience.

"Four researchers who culled through 50 years of research literature about the psychology of conservatism report that at the core of political conservatism is the resistance to change and a tolerance for inequality, and that some of the common psychological factors linked to political conservatism include:"

* Fear and aggression
* Dogmatism and intolerance of ambiguity
* Uncertainty avoidance
* Need for cognitive closure
* Terror management

Have you ever noticed that most liberals, when confronted with evidence they are wrong, only reword their point in a slightly different way while still offering no facts to back up their claims?

I've seen quite a few times when you've said some downright appaling things yourself, me boyo.

I've noticed it from both sides of the aisle. Yes, it's sad.
