Sorry guys but most people (meaning anyone who isn't a Capitalist) hates 'freedom', people hate freedom, they want security and a strong sense of direction in life, they want security in employment, security in food, security in their home. The government can provide this, and it gives everyone in the nation a good sense of belonging, patriotic values flourish when you don't have scumbag capitalists making things unequal.

People like stability, they like routine, they like government.

People like a big 'fatherly' government to take care of them, make them feel secure, protect them, give them permanent and stable employment, give them state housing etc.

'Freedom' is a sham, and it sucks, freedom to starve and have your house foreclosed more like.

In England even before WWII they still used "poor houses". WWII was a horrendous experience for Britain but in many ways it kicked out the old way and allowed a new form of society to arise from the ashes of the old. Don't forget that Churchill was kicked out of office by the Brits in the wake of WWII, they elected an avowedly socialist government and it set about rebuilding a shattered nation but also took the opportunity to put in place socialist policies which radically improved the lot of the average Briton.

Hopefully the coming economic crisis in my country will allow similar policies.

It's a shame that crisis forces any of us to reconsider but it's human nature. The problem for the rest of the world is that if there is economic carnage in the US it will flow to us. Hopefully the correction won't be savage but instigate some re-thinking for the future. I think that capitalism is in a crisis and I do believe it's internal contradictions are now being seen. Let's hope the transition to socialism is gradual and effective.

Correction, a Stupid mans copout.

Stupid people took loans they couldn't afford and suffered as they should for their stupidity.

No, the capitalist system encourages ridiculous risk instead of security, it should be ended.

And stupid lenders made the LOANS to these "stupid" people, because of conditions set in place by stupid people like Phil Gramm and John McCain, and now that these stupid people have caused the stupid investors in these stupid financial corporations to fail, the stupid taxpayers who stupidly voted for a Republican administration will lose their stupid retirement savings if any of their 401Ks are heavily invested in stupid financial stocks.

And the Stupid Federal Reserve drove the BUS that is Monetary Policy thru numerous administrations. Chuck Schummer sits on what Senate Committee? LOL He has oversight on this too.

I love seeing stupid Banks go under for stupid choices. But I remember both Dems and Repos stating that Americans deserve to own a home. BAH! Idiots! Dodd too.
