maybe one should have to take an IQ test to vote. great idea!!! it should also include mental stability and concern for someone other than one's own interests, i.e., the good of the country over big business.

The problem is that such a test could be easily manipulated. Literacy tests were used to disenfranchise blacks for decades.

I would favor people being allowed to vote from the age of 14 forward.

The reason: what the politicians in office do will be in force when they become adults and they should have a say in who is placed in office. I also believe it would help train children to become educated on the issues and involved in the process. - especially if the schools reinstated a class that used be standard - Civics - and taught them the process of logical evaluation of candidates positions via research into past voting history, how to spot logical fallacies, the basic principles of debate, and the purpose and power of each branch of the government. Thanks to having limited this material to a week or two instead of a semester most curriculum programs, many younger members of US society have no real idea how the system works and how to have a real voice via voting.

He who angers you, controls you!

If you would ask a teen why he would vote for candidate X instead of candidate Y the teen would prolly say, b/c candidate Y sucks or candidate X is better looking.Their awareness usually stops at the end of their gonads.

PS I'm a high school teacher and have tried to have political discussions with them. Their knowledge of issues is shallow at best. To them civics class is nothing more than a subject they need to pass. They believe they are in school to socialize.

If you had read the essay, that issue was specifically addressed.
