Default Remember the 2006 elections??

Remember in the waining days of the 2006 elections when Bush was so desperately trying to appeal to his base and people were screaming to close the borders to block that route so terrorists couldn't just walk into this country?

How is that border fence along the entire border coming along. They done yet?

Or was it just another last minuit desperate promise made by a sinking Republican?

It was a diversionary tactic and it didn't work. Dems were overwhelmingly elected to the Senate and House.

Fast-forward to 2008. GWB doesn't have enough pull with even the GOP base to help and McCain's attempts at diverting attention from the issues and problems has fallen flat. 2006 all over again????

Default Facts are funny things

Here ya go:

Fence completed as of August 13, 2008:
  • 184.2 miles of pedestrian fence
  • 153.8 miles of vehicle fence
Proposed fence to be completed by December 31, 2008:
  • 370 miles of pedestrian fence
  • 300 miles of vehicle fence
The fence works great where completed although behind schedule. Liberals and lawyers have been bogging construction down.

so all they have managed with all of their empty promises to their Base and the country is to rebuild a small portions of the already existing fence which was falling down and tunneled through. Bush and the Republicans were harping how a fence was going to be built along the entire border. To put a halt to the influx of terrorists coming across our borders. Bush even signed some glamorous bill stating such.

Were these just more Republicans empty promises?

DEMOCRATIC PROMISE #1: Prepared to Govern & Ready to Lead

Promise: “Democrats are prepared to govern and ready to lead.”

– Speaker-Elect Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Press Release, November 8, 2006

Broken Promise: “Six months after taking over Congress, Democrats find they have accomplished little of their agenda. Perhaps not coincidentally, Congress’ job approval rating has reached a dramatic low … If they can’t reverse the trend, some Democrats are starting to worry, their majority could be short-lived.”

– “Democrats Promised Way More Than They’ve Delivered So Far,” Chicago Tribune, June 21, 2007

DEMOCRATIC PROMISE #2: “Open, Honest, & Ethical Congress”

Promise: “[W]e will make this the most honest, ethical and open Congress in history.”

– Speaker-Elect Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Press Conference, November 8, 2006

Broken Promise: “When Democrats recaptured the House of Representatives last November after 12 long years in the minority, they promised voters ‘the most honest, the most open and the most ethical Congress.’ Five months after Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her leadership team took control, that promise remains unfulfilled.”

– “A Wake-Up Call For Congress,” Cleveland Plain Dealer Editorial, June 10, 2007

DEMOCRATIC PROMISE #16: Lower Gasoline Prices

Promise: “Democrats have a plan to lower gas prices…join Democrats who are working to lower gas prices now.”

– Then-Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Press Release, April 19, 2006

Broken Promise: “The average price of gasoline hit $3.218 a gallon Monday, up a stunning 11.5 cents the past week and just half a penny shy of the inflation-adjusted record, the government reported. The average is almost certain this week to pass the inflation-adjusted high of $3.223, recorded in May 1981 by the Energy Information Administration.”

– “Average Gasoline Price Nears 1981 Average,” USA Today, May 22, 2007. Democrats have been in power for six months, and gas prices have gone up, not down.

This ones my favorite!

DEMOCRATIC PROMISE #17: Make Energy Reform a Top Priority

Promise: “Democrats promise to hit the ground running on energy issues if they win control of the House or Senate. Responding to voters’ concerns about $3-a-gallon gasoline and the soaring cost of home-heating oil, Democratic leaders in both chambers have ranked energy as one of their top priorities for the next Congress.”

– “Energy Reserving a Front Burner,” National Journal, September 9, 2006

Broken Promise: “House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) issued a clear directive soon after Democrats took control of Congress this year, promising a comprehensive energy and climate change bill on the House floor by the Fourth of July. But with five legislative work weeks to go before that deadline, House Democrats are still left with the task of cobbling together a bill from as many as 11 committees…As for the deadline itself, a House Democratic aide close to the process said the package will not arrive on the House floor before the July Fourth recess.”

– “Energy Policy Moving on Multiple Fronts,” Energy & Environment Daily, May 18, 2007. Six months after Democrats took power in Congress, no comprehensive energy reform has even been passed by the House, much less sent to the President.

DEMOCRATIC PROMISE #20: Invest in Alternative Fuels

Promise: “Besides encouraging the biofuel market and infrastructure, it also aims to encourage coal-to-liquids as an alternative fuel through the U.S. military’s purchasing power. The majority leader said the bill is complementary to the rural working group’s biofuels act and has the support of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman John Dingell, D-Mich.”
– “US Rep Hoyer: $15B Energy Bill Outlines House Democrats’ Plans,” Dow Jones, March 1, 2007

Broken Promise: “The coal-to-liquids amendment showcased the difficult debate ahead for Democratic leaders as they try to craft multiple bills this year dealing with energy and global warming. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calf.) is not an advocate of coal-to-liquids plants…”
– “Coal-to-Liquids Vote Caps House Energy Markup,” Environment & Energy Daily, June 21, 2007

http://republicanleader.house.gov/br.../p_energy.html
Really is that right? Here's a list of alternate energy bills, most introduced right after the Democrats took over congress in 2007.

2007 Bi-Partisan Alternate Energy Bills Dead in Democrat controlled committees:

H.R.3807 Renewable Energy Assistance Act of 2007
http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-h3807/show

H.R.2950 United States Energy Storage Competitiveness Act of 2007

H.R.2947 Energy Efficient Buildings Promotion Act 2007

H.R.2848 Solar Opportunity and Local Access Rights Act 2007
http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-h2848/show

H.R.2774 Solar Energy Research and Advancement Act of 2007
http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-h2774/show

H.R.2441 Renewable Schools Energy Act of 2007
http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-h2441/show

H.R.2428 Biofuels Research Initiative Act of 2007
http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-h2428/show

H.R.1945 SUN Act of 2007
http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-h1945/show

H.R.1772 Rural Wind Energy Development Act 2007
http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-h1772/show

H.R. 1215 Amends the Energy Policy Act of 2005
http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-h1215/show

H.R. 729 Home Energy Generation Act 2007
http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-h729/show

Not a single one made it out of Democrat controlled committee. How on earth are we suppose to believe anything they say? Myself I wouldn't believe a word out of their mouths if their tongue's came notarized!

You know why they couldn't do it? Because they were going to hack up people's land here in Texas. Farmers were going to have their cattle separated from grazing land by these nutso Republicans. But, because of the homestead act in Texas (the ONLY good thing I think they have done here), the Repubs couldn't just come in and take the land by Federal order.

Again, not thinking. Lets use national security as an excuse to run roughshod over people's liberties. All with rhetoric of protection... sounds like ye ol Caesars are back to play.

Bush never proposed a complete fence along the entire border. It was a combination of cameras, more border control, fences, etc. Show me a quote where Bush ever said he would implement a fence along the entire border. The fence they are working on is the fence bill that Bush signed into law, but Congress keeps attacking the funding for.

You just make stuff up.

Wait wait. Are you saying that people who lost aren't keeping their campaign promises? In case you didn't notice the house and senate went Democrat in 2006.
