While it’s still perilous waters to travel, perhaps the new Zogby poll shows a trend in the making.
It’s issues in this election, a change in policies on the issues that all the voters have indicated is foremost in their minds. The McCain campaign, based on the advice of Karl Rove, made the decision to not campaign on the issues. Their campaign chairman even publicly stated they weren’t going to campaign on the issues. That may not have been a wise move. The McCain campaign went all negative, applying the Rove slash and smear technique. Within a few days their ads were so over the top, their campaign has now been branded as liars. It’s been reported widely by the major media, and even Fox News broadcast an interview with Karl Rove in which he commented the lies were too much. There is an apparent blow-back from this strategy. Now the McCain campaign does have “issues” they have to address. They have to reverse the public’s perception that they’re trying to lie their way into office. They have the “issue” of the investigation scandal of Sarah Palin that she’s said she won’t cooperate with. They have the “issue” of the lie about John McCain inventing the Blackberry. They have the “issue” of refusing to answer any questions from the media. They have the “issue” of getting caught in their lie about attendance size at McCain’s campaign appearances. On and on. Those are definitely not “issues” at this stage of their campaign they expected or want to face. But those kind of ‘issues”, once they gain traction, are almost impossible to manage. In marketing, perception is the reality. Once the public’s perception arrives at a consensus on a topic like the untruthfulness of the McCain campaign, it’s challenging, almost to a point of impossibility, to reverse. When that’s combined with a refusal to discuss the real issues, it further expands the public’s negative opinion of their campaign. Perhaps that’s what is reflective in the new Zogby poll that shows Obama has gained seven points over McCain in their September 11-13 poll. http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1552 |

What does it say about America if the vote is really swayed 7-10% in just a few days?
Either we are all the biggest sheeple-puppets on the planet, or the polls are inaccurate
