The use of outlandish, pointless info
I am noticing more and more that roughly half of the topics posted on this board have absolutely no value whatsoever. The topic poster makes some outlandish claim that is so far out that I don't even think that the poster could possibly believe what has been said. It seems almost like these posters just want attention.
Which brings me to the tie-in with politics.
Politicians seem to act very much in the same way. They will throw out a topic so ridiculous that it begs attention, which distracts the public from what actually matters.
So my question is:
Should we pass laws to limit politics to a more factually based track, cutting down on the proliferation of gossip vs. real facts?
It would clearly be anti-freedom of speech, but should we be drawing a line somewhere? In my eyes, it seems like although we may talk about politics being in the pocket of labor/corporations, politics of both sides are in the pocket of the media. Tainted news is just as good if not better than factual news in terms of ratings and income for the news networks. Factual news is often boring and loses voter interest; the voter changes channels/stops reading. The level of anti-intellectualism drives me insane.
