Default Voter Caging?

Greetings! I come here to this forum as an alien from another sphere of existence. I stick to my mommies website and don't surf much at all. But there a buzz going 'round and I have been asked to spread the word.

The Republicans are using a junk-mail trick to un-register newly registered voters. It's called voter caging and they target only the battleground states. I can't explain it fully, because I don't understand it fully.

Please google this info and absorb it in your own fashion. My sleep deprived mind mind can only do so much right now.

The main stream media will never report this. Only through the 'net can this come to light.

Help. And, Thank You.
I must flit away now...probably to never return..although, the winds have been blowing in strange directions lately...maybe I will breeze back thru sometime.

K.

Default Explaining Voter Caging

Here's how voter caging works:

Step 1: Identify a list of voters who are likely to vote for Democrats, but who are not likely to receive mail. These people would include:
a: People who have purchased a new home and have had a change of
address

b: People who are serving in the military and are not at home

c: People who have lost their homes to foreclosure

d: People who have had to move to find employment

e: People who summer/winter somewhere other than their primary
residence

Step 2: Send a piece of mail to this list with "Do Not Forward" specified. This specification will make certain that the mail will come back to the sender if it is not deliverable
a: The mail will be sent not to the current address, but to the last known
address of the person who has moved or lost their home to foreclosure
b: The current incarnation of mail urges voters to apply for absentee
ballots, but lists the wrong address for the voter to apply. For people
who summer/winter elsewhere, it is often the address of the clerk
where their vacation home is. If these voters register for an
absentee ballot in the wrong place, they could be prosecuted for voter
fraud.

Step 3: Challenge the vote of every voter whose mail has been returned. Republicans will send people out to polling places to challenge votes.

It's insidious. It's one of several examples of how Republicans care more about staying in power than about our Constitution and the rights of the people.

msnbc did do a segment on this the other day, there is a hotline that people can call,I can,t remember the # but I think it was tues or wed, that it aired so if you go to msnbc I am sure the number is there.also out on the campaign trail,we have been telling voters about this, continue the message as you flit around the country.I have been doing voter registration out side of the DMV.It has been really helpful to people,us being there,so I know hundreds of people that don't have this concern, the OBAMA campaigners have eased their minds, and will continue to do so.

It has been 20 years since the Republicans won a presidential election.

Default Caging is Illegal.

A federal court ordered the GOP to stop caging in the 60's.

This is ingenious! How can I do this in my neighborhood? I have to know and, how can I challenge/stop all the illegals in my county from voting?

Happily, you can rest easy. Voter fraud is so rare that it's unlikely there will be any illegal voters in your county.

Besides, most election lawbreakers are Republicans so you actually want them to vote, right?

Yeah, right now this is a big issue in Michigan, Macomb County in particular... Macomb County's sort of a social conservative, fiscal liberal poor kinda "Middle America" area, one of those places where populism wins rather than liberalism or conservatism.
It was hit HARD by the mortgage industry issues (as was most of MI... but most of MI not quite as swingy- only Oakland County is swingier... and it's hit the least by big economic problems [something like 4th richest county in the US]).

A lot of people who have had foreclosures are being targeted for disenfranchisement and our partisan Sec of State (DMV head combined with elections-watcher, for all you non-Michiganders) is making excuses as following some obsolete laws... while the ACLU is coming out to fight them.
I'm not so optimistic... I don't think the ACLU will get it into the courts before the election.

I used to live in Macomb County... didn't like it. It seems like all the really weird murders you hear about in Michigan happen there.
