Default What do you you suggest to poor people who work hard but cant survive in USA?

I am speaking on behalf some of the nice American people that I know who can neither afford to have internet, nor have time to spend on such message boards because they work 12 hours a day or so trying to make money to buy food and pay bills. if they get seriously sick, while it's not mentioned on the free media they usually die, because they can not afford to go to the hospital and if they went there once or twice anyway, they were discouraged to go back again because of constant hospital bill harassments from previous visits.

One guy told me had went to a hospital because he had a serious irritation in his eye, they gave him prescription to buy a small bottle of eye drops for $99 which he did, but then also bills from the hospital started comming for another $1,200 with all kinds of threats attached to it. he says he would rather die then go to any hospital again. he only told me that while he was very drunk so I imagine many people keep it quiet inside and no not want to show what losers they are.

Clintons could not fix the health care in 8 years, so any suggestions 'vote Obama' will be disregarded completely, sorry.

Iraqi who lived under Saddam told me they had no such problems, because you would just go to a pharmacy and get those drops for equivalent of $1. then I talked to someone who lived in former soviet union, they said exactly the same thing.

Clinton had a Republican Congress - Obama won't. Universal health care is coming to the US finally. We will be among the last of the first world countries to implement it, but at least we will finally be fixing this huge problem.

For whatever reason, health care appears to be substantially higher than in most western countries. I have heard figures as high as three times as much.

Fix that, and you are halfway to fixing many other problems

Health care cost so much in the US because the pharmaceutical manufactures and the private health insurance industry have huge lobbies and contribute big bucks to politicians. Taking the profit motive out of health care will eliminate a lot of the difference in pricing seen between the US and countries with nationalized health care.

Why is the poll and subject of this thread completely unrelated to the title?

I got tired of being told to 'leave if i don't like it here', so I wanted to see if it's really unamerican to bring up the American problems and compare our system to what people on the media call 'anti American' nations

Tell them to move to Mexico and then sneak back in illegally when they get sick, preferably CA.The government will gladly foot the bill under these circumstances.

Default What do people do?

Actually, the question of what people do when they can't afford health care and can't afford an actual living applies to lots of Americans. They just don't happen to be the people who are followed around by cameras.

I have friends who are on disability. They would love to work, but very honestly, they can't. Their healthcare is covered by Medicare, but if they have that alone, then they can't afford the copays. Some have Medicare and Medicaid. So they could go to the doctor, if they had transportation. If they can actually get to a a doctor, then even the $2.50 prescription copay can be prohibitive. For drugs not covered by their drug plan (and a lot of older, cheaper drugs aren't), they can't afford to pay full price.

I have other friends who can and do work, and if they aren't with a company that provides health benefits, they can't afford private insurance; it costs an arm and a leg.

So what do people in these situations do? They wait until a condition is life-threatening, and then they go to the ER when they can't stand it anymore, or they're brought by an ambulance after they pass out in the grocery store (losers blowing their money on food [tongue in cheek, for those with an impaired sense of sarcasm]). Then, yes, they can't afford the bills, which eventually get paid off by everyone else through higher healthcare costs.

Or they sneak across the border to Mexico, where private healthcare and prescription costs are far cheaper--and often better--than here.

For an anecdotal comparison, see...

What would I tell people to do differently? There's not much people can do, other than to hold politicians responsible for creating a needed change.
