Default Manipulated polling results

I have been contacted by two different groups, obviously Republican, requesting that if I am asked to do a poll of who I am voting for to pick Obama. Talking to someone on another board she was also contacted about the same thing. This is supposed to complety throw off the polls and make it look like Obama has a greated edge than he really has. I wonder if anyone here has been contacted?

Why would a republican do this?

If anything if an Obama win seems inevitable, many republicans will stay home. Granted, same goes for a democrat.

I can't imagine why you would assume it's a republican, but in assuming a republican is deceiving you it's clear who you support.

Not only that, but the likely hood of such a call reaching a significant portion of potential poll takers is unlikely. Most state wide polls, only contact 600-700 people.

That is reverse human nature. If your guy seems guaranteed to win, you are likely to just stay home and watch.

Is there any way that you could prove that this happened?

I think that may be a tale tale sign right there teeko, as others have asked is there any proof that this occurred or are we to believe this strictly on hear say?

It happens. I don't know that it was a republican pollster but it happens on both sides. It happens in many elections, more when they are close races. Pollsters whan to mess with the numbers. You can't prove a phone call. In all my years of voting I had such a thing happen once. It was during the Carter v Reagan election. IT hasn't happened since.

Can she recall any identifying characteristics of the caller or the call itself?

It has happened to me as well. It is common in close races. The hope is that the other side will get over confident about the win and blow off going to the polls, contributing and campaigning as hard.
