Exclamation Peace in a democracy?

Peace can only exist as an ideal in a democracy. comment...

This is the topic i was given for my latest western civ paper... does anyone have any Idea what this means or have an opinion on it?

I think that peace can only exist in a state of freedom. If oppression is violence, and democracy preserves freedom, then I would agree with the premise that democracy should promote peace.

What the @#$% did I just say?

You need to be free before you can be peaceful, is what I'm saying. So if democracy is the best way to achieve freedom, then democracy is the best way to achieve peace.

No, in fact, the two are incompatible.

Considering that democracy relies on coercion, with the majority electing representatives to force their opinions onto the rest.

Peace as it's usually defined depends more on international collaboration than on individual government systems.
The world is essentially an anarchic system. International organizations attempt to fix this, but are basically voluntary pseudo-governments with no real authority and somewhat lacking in legitimacy.
