Concerning his decision-making process:
“I make them as quickly as I can, quicker than the other fellow, if I can,” Mr. McCain wrote, with his top adviser Mark Salter, in his 2002 book, Worth the Fighting For. “Often my haste is a mistake, but I live with the consequences without complaint.” Source I think this mentality, when it relates to campaign strategy is hurting him. The recent campaign suspension, IMO, is proof of that. Some honest calculative decisions should've taken place not only by him, but those that he keeps in his circle. Advisors should be raising their hands in objection to potentially harmful strategies... especially when the polls have you down. The decision to make a move "quick" should never come before he decision to make a move "correctly". That's an issue I take with my President... because a quick move got us in a long conflict that (with more calculative reasoning, fool-proof methods, better estimated troops necessity) probably would've been less trouble... like McCain said.... "Walk in the park". But anyway... I honestly believe that by saying he wouldn't debate unless the bill was implemented, and then going back on his word only hurts him in the view of the public... a public that is looking for a responsible, calculative, right-the-first-time leader. The answer John McCain, is not to always be quicker than the other guy. The answer is to be a lot more legitimate. Stop killing your credibility.

The problem is if you're the president and make a mistake, like Bush invading Iraq, the United States and sometimes the world has to live with your consequences.
