Default Human flaws

What is the single most damaging flaw of humanity? Fear or Laziness?

(Taken from the movie 'Waking Life'....I suggest you all watch it)

Great movie.

Fear, although I do not view it as a flaw, only a natural condition siezed on by politicians (I am being specific for this forum's sake) to create desirable voting conditions.

Fear is the basis of all things human. It is the simplest feeling and the first feeling out of the womb. Everything can be traced to it. Even love.

I think laziness.

We have barely progressed as a civilization over the past 100 years. We still have power lines, gas powered EVERYTHING, we arent doing much in space yet. Basically, the reason for all of this is:

A. The people in control of the world (aka governments and corporations) are more concerned with their own wealth and apathy than the progression of the human race.

B. People do asbolutely nothing. Take advertising for instance. Does that contribute at all to our progression? Hell no. If anything it ccontributes to regression.

Our society today is an exact copy of society 100 years ago, just in prettier wrapping paper. Wow we went from a Model T to a Nissan Skyline. Whoopdy do.

People in general dont think. Most people just care about their little bubble. Their small town, what their next paycheck is going to be, blah blah blah.

One giant leap we did was landing a man on the moon. Leaps like that should be happenning all the time. Like every month. If the human race got off its butt and actually DID SOMETHING, we would be in alot better shape than we are now, and we wouldnt be starving.

That is quite a statement. I don't know if you are looking at the big picture though. Look at how long human kind relied on horses for transportation. Then within one century they were rendered completely obsolete. How many other conventions were rendered obsolete in one century? Candles for light. Wood for fuel. Spears and swords for weapons. Simple merchant economy versus the invention of a people owned corporation. The past 100 years has been the most productive in human history. Lazy we are not.

I still say fear. Consumerism is based on it. Look at what commercials really tell you and you will see how much they tap into fear. Same with the government. The Patriot Act was based on it. Without fear The Patriot Act would never have gotten past the guards. Even laziness is based on it. People are lazy because they are afraid to stick their necks out and be cut down. I think laziness is a more complicated condition, whereas fear resembles more of a basic element.
