All my coworkers, friends, seems like everyone I know, somehow has all this money to go out to eat all the time, buy expensive toys, talk all the time about this cool little gadget they just bought, the big house they just got, etc.

All the while I'm sitting there wondering, how can you afford all this? I make decent money, but I don't go out buying a bunch of stuff I don't need simply because I can't afford it. I have a hard time joining in conversations about 'stuff' because I don't have the money to buy all these things.

Why is America so materialistic? Is everyone just charging everything they buy to their credit cards thinking that they won't have to pay it back WITH interest?

As insane as it sounds, I almost feel like an outcast or an alien here even though I'm a tax paying American citizen. Am I the only one who saves his money and buys things with saved money and not on credit?

It's hard to avoid, people always tell me I'm missing out on life, that I should just have fun and not worry about how much something costs, just go buy or do it you only live once. Am I the only one who sees the absurdity in this?

All though i do love materialism i hate borrowing money. One of the only things i currently own on borrowed money is my house which im determined to pay off as fast as possible. I also make an effort to run myself with little use of a credit card. That aside i (*)(*)(*)(*)ing love buying stuff online...
