...I had sincere intentions to not gloat if Bush was reelected, but I ended up allowing myself 24 hours of unlimited, unreserved gloating, just to get it out of my system before taking a more serious attitude.
I think it's wonderful that the voting public came out in the numbers that they did. In a sense, we all came together on election day. The next day, some of the talking heads on the mainstream news media were wondering aloud what Bush is going to do, to reunite us all again. I found that kind of interesting, because in my opinion, the media were more to blame for the perception or feeling of divisiveness in our country, than were the issues or candidates. Kerry may not be as far left as many people think. The Democrats had a real problem in that they had to cater to the centerists in their party, but also had to worry about those farther to the left possibly voting for Ralph "Unsafe at Any Speed" Nader. While I was not always interested in politics, I used to consider myself a conservative Democrat, except for a brief period when I was for Goldwater. The only reason I'm a Republican, now, is because the Dems seem to have swung too far to the left. John F. Kennedy, who preached that lowering taxes helps to bring about a healthy economy, which results in more revenue for the government, would be a Republican today, for chrissakes! To all the doom-and-gloom people who cry out that Bush is going to lead us to ruin, I would say, "Hang in, there." While it may feel as though we're heading for disaster, I truly believe we will be pleasantly surprised by the end of this term.
