Default I have heard that argument, but

there is powerful value for us hosting a body which is largely against us. As Christ and Gandhi showed, there is tremendous power in not responding, but welcoming an affront.

Just a thought.

Default I disagree.

Commercial property in Manhattan is a valuable commodity. The UN pays no rent.

Let them go elsewhere and pander to the special interests of dictators.

Default Insanity.

Like it or not, the U.N. is the representitive body of the rest of the world.

If you want to severely damage ties with the rest of the world, this is the way to go about it.

Default Assuming that's true...

...the question becomes one of benefit vs. drawback. Who benefits more from our relationship, we or they?

I believe it obvious they do.

We should, at the least, work towards a more equitable relationship, one where we're not footing the majority of the bill so nations like Libya can sit on the Commission on Human Rights and the floor can be a forum for anti-Americanism.

This is not a question of cost-benefit analysis, nor it is a question of property value in new york. You think you can solve their corruption or anti-americanism by insulting them? This is question of diplomatic courtesy, and there is only one answer: The United Nations stays in New York.

Default I disagree.

In my opinion, the UN is irreparably broken, and needs to be razed so it can be replaced with a body with a real regard for human rights.

It cannot be repaired in it's present context, and thus, we should stop enabling the dysfunction. If the UN is going to go on in it's present form, let it go on without our help (and our tax dollars), and let's free up some valuable real estate to help NYC recuperate from 9/11.

Default The truth is

without US support, the UN cannot exist.

I say good riddance!

Yes, the U.N. can exist without the U.S. And you wouldn't want to see this day, trust me on that.

Default I don't think you can knowledgeably speak to what either

Hans or I wants.

I certainly would LOVE to see the day when we withdraw our support for the UN and let them move elsewhere.
