Not American, but I will be able to vote in the next presidential elections.
I won't probably vote, because almost all the Finnish political parties are the same, except the Greens with the decriminalization of marijuana. Actually, I just might vote for the Greens. |

Haven't missed a local, state or national election since I turned 18.
My first election was the first one where those 18yrs old were allowed to vote in the US. We had been working for some years to lower the voting age, however since it was during the Vietnam war, and since it was in the days when there was a military draft, there was tremendous resistance to lowering the voting age. Many thought it was the duty of the young to fight and die without questioning the political leadership, let alone having a true voice via the right to vote. Today, the US has an all volunteer armed service and anyone old enough to enlist is old enough to vote. In terms of true progress, there are few changes that measure up to this one. oc |

Too many people around the world have had to fight for the right to vote. I can't just ignore my own right and say that it isn't worth anything.
It may not be worth anything to you, but it's worth something to others. Take communist Soviet Union, for example...everyone voted for the communist candidate. and everyone voted because if they didn't, the KGB would come and make them vote. I value my democratic vote. Now all we need to do is find the people who are worth voting for and give them the opportunity to have a successful campaign with a little campaign finance reform... |
