For this reason, I have discontinued watching any movies, or any award shows that gives them a pulpit to voice those opinions. They are totally disconnected from the price it takes to continue their freedom in making controversial films, and the price paid by so many to continue voicing their dissent. Simply because someone has the ability to entertain, doesn't automatically give them the ability to govern, nor think they have forethought in protecting this nation.
I'm sure Hollywood is severely missing your patronage.

More to the point, anyone has the right to make whatever they want. The answer to this non-existent problem is simple. Just do what your already doing.

LOL. So, you are arguing that dissenting voices should be stifled? That's not very American.

No, I'm arguing that celebs should keep their mouths shut and do what they are paid to do, ACT. Stop using your status to try and turn against America. You see, people over seas see our movies. What they see is an American celebrity openly bashing our country. So, why not them too right? If the celebs hate our country so much, why should foreigners like it? Not to mention I am against someone speaking upon subjects they have absolutely no knowledge of anyway, i.e. politics.

I can't chop this one up into money quotes. Read it all. And when you find yourself thinking 'Hey, that's not what they taught me in college', well, there's an explaination for that too.
Yeah! Except for Fred Thompson! He's part of Hollywood that is super cool!

You're right, no one is an expert on how America works, but our credentials are far more advanced than most of the Hollywood celebs that think they know what is right for the country.
Maybe. But Hollywood people do have a great deal of time on their hands. So some could be quite well versed in politics and world affairs. Or not. All I'm saying is that if your random, small town hick is entitled to his opinion (and he is despite the fact he knows nothing about anything), I can't get too worked up if some Hollywood person has an opinion, too. We don't tell Joe the Plumber to shut up and just plumb. And Lord knows he should. But yet we tell George Clooney to shut up and act.

Differences of opinion on what's best for America seems to be an alien concept to many neocons. They seem to believe that their way is the only one that's good for this country. Go figure.

Most don't have problems with varying opinions, all americans are varying in those. It is when the very rich, very well known people feel that they are the authority in all things america, and voice those opinions in very public places.

As such, those neocons deserve as much respect for their opinions as they give others who disagree, i.e., none.

Spoken like a true liberal, no respect is given to conservatives in hollywood, wonder why? Could it be that it is not conforming, and traitorous if your disagree with the elite.

Two points. You don't give the rest of the world enough credit. I would argue that seeing a country where you can speak out against your government would be uplifting to folks in countries where the same will land you in prison or worse.

Secondly, depending on who you're talking about, Sarandon for instance, is far deeper into everyday politics than anyone on this forum. She does constant fund raising, gets to sit and deal with politicians, travels the world seeing the effects of some policies, etc. I don't see that as having absolutely no knowledge. Certainly no less than you or I.

Your first point is valid, although I wold think the opposite is true.

Second, going to see how another lives is no basis for knowledge. There are many things I have seen but I would not pretend to know how to fix them. No, Sarandon and Clooney and Moore are just like every other Liberal out there, telling you what the problem is and telling you who is to blame for it.
