On the 11/30/04 edition of C-SPAN2's BookTV, Patrick Buchanan predicted a coming civil war in the Republican party. In part, Buchanan based his claim on the belief that George Bush is anything BUT a conservative. And those who hold (traditional) conservative beliefs will begin to push for fiscally (and socially) conservative policies as Bush's term runs.

Buchanan was speaking about his book, Where the Right Went Wrong. Except for the quasi-protectionist talk, I agreed with most everything that Buchanan had to say. I'm just sorry that I won't be able to finish watching this repeat of the show. A purge of the neo-cons. Ah, that warms my heart on this cold morning.

If a civil war does occur, it will be brief. Traditional conservatives will continue to vote for our candidates because they are scared of the alternative.

Wrong. The hand-wringing over Bush was just the beginning. With the right presidential candidate, conservatives can take back the Republican party.

Yeah right. Neo-Cons are closer to the mainstream, and traditionals wont vote for other candidates because they know that if they do, they will face the possibility of a liberal like Kerry getting into office...which would be far far worse than someone like Bush.

So eat it and smile Pat...this is only the beginning. Neo-Cons are the future of America.

For a term or two, yes. Then we'll have our backs to a wall and more drastic measures will be required.

Heh heh, you people are becoming as delusional as the liberals. Traditionals will not turn on the party so long as the possible result will be a liberal in office. And since Neo-Cons are closer to the social mainstream, Traditionals will follow our agenda. I really dont see how that is changing.

You could be entirely correct. I don't believe you are, but you could be.

I personally believe people will get fed up with neo-con cons sooner or later; endless war, destruction of tradition, lukewarm moral involvement, increasingly overbearing government...you're riding the tide of fear right now, but I suspect it'll ebb.
