I don't see it and I'm a natural born hillbilly who's spent time in most every southern state. I'm also in the gun culture and I agree with all of his sentiments. Another manufactured-outrage thread.

You poor downtrodden victim. I'm sorry being white is so difficult for you. It's never been a problem for me nor for other white people I know.

You are going to have to work much harder to make your fake outrage believable.

just because they didn't vote for Obama doesn't mean they are racist.

Oh Brother Hat,
And here you are being all angry. Ya know, aside from the fact that Mr Brokaw did mention places other than the South, as other posters have mentioned; there really and truly still are bigots and racists living, breathing and working right here in the South with us. No no, is true! Um...you do remember Louisiana Oilman yes? But setting aside what is still happening today for a moment, let's address the historical aspect of all this that seems to have you all in a dither. (forgive me, it's not just you. I've heard this expressed from others too) For a great many Americans, white, black, Native, Asian, Latino...January 20th 2009 is a day they never thought they would live to see happen. For an entire generation of people who did live through the 60's--hell, the 40s, 50s, and 60s, to have been able to witness President Obama's Inauguration is an emotional moment simply because for some of them, it's a dream and a goal they have struggled for literally their entire lives. Tom Brokaw is a man who, by his profession, has witnessed first hand, more turning points in this nation's history than certainly most people on this board, I would imagine. And throughout his career during all the horrid times of the country being divided during the 60's-not just along color lines, but also because of the Vietnam war- he had to remain neutral. He had to remain professionally above it all and simply report the news. You are correct. This is in fact a 'whole nutha century". But this century was borne out of the last. And this simple but undeniable fact is, President Obama is able to be President Obama because of the sacrifices of people like Dr. King and Medgar Evers and the hard work and dedication of Reverend Joseph E. Lowery and because a woman named Rosa Parks said "no, I'm not giving up my seat on this bus." Did you know anything about the Rev Lowery other than the prayer he gave that irritated so many? Does anyone realize this man, this good Reverend has been working for Civil Rights his entire career? He organized the Montgomery boycott after Mrs. Parks was arrested for not giving up her seat. Yes that was last century too. That is rather my point. This century we are in now and enjoying now--it was built on the blood, sweat and sacrifice of these good men and women, black, white and all colors who came before us. To not honor those amazing people seems a horrible disgrace. And if that includes shedding a tear or two for some, so be it. I find it sad that in your opinion in means they need to "grow a pair." I'd rather hazard a guess that there are many more that believe it takes a pair to be bold enough to allow their honest emotions to show. Last thing. Interesting tag line ya got going with the running "ignore list tally". If this post of mine gets me onto your ignore list (assuming I'm not already there,) well...your choice of course. Others will see these words and hopefully gain something from it.. I hope, in your words to me, your anger doesn't "take you to the Dark Side" Peace, tresh
