This is an immigrant's country because Obama is our President? Is he calling Obama an immigrant, or is he suggesting that blacks endorse immigration? I really don't understand.

I was anti-Brokaw, as he was leaning heavily toward John McCain, in the election. I now see him in a better light. Admirable.

I think the term "redneck" is just as racist as the "N" word. Only Blacks are allowed to use the "N" word profusely. It is a hate crime for anyone else to use it. Anyone can use the word "redneck", because everyone knows that it is resonable to assume that many Whites are racist, and therefore many Whites are "rednecks." Don't be offended you crackers, you know it's true.

If he hasnt been in the South since the 60s, what is that saying about him??? It screams of liberal elitism. I am glad to see that the old worn out labels are still in effect on the left. I guess swinging fists at phantoms will never grow old with them.

While your at it Tom, why dont you tell Rev. Joseph Lowery to quit being a bigot and a racist. "Take that! You know?"

I just re-read this a minute ago.

Wrote that post in the wee hours of this morning fighting off sleep fueled by caffeine and a desire to (hopefully) make a point. In that zeal I realize now, I overlooked something.

I didn't know who the Reverend Lowery was before I researched him a bit for that post. I did read in someone else's post on another thread that the Rev had been a Civil Right's leader for as long as there has been a Civil Rights movement, essentially; so I looked him up.

But when I caught up on this thread this afternoon and re-read this I realized it read pretty much like I already knew who he was and I didn't, so in the interests of full disclosure I wanted to...well disclose that.

1. Redneck does not describe a race. It has more to do with class (originally outdoor blue collar worker... now any blue collar worker), but it's developed into more of a lifestyle... one taken by CHOICE.
2. The term redneck is self-applied with pride. Ever listen to country? Most of my family and many friends and co-workers I've had would refer to themselves as rednecks.

They shouldn't. But either way we do have the issue that black is not a choice. Redneck is. And redneck isn't even derogatory to most people anymore. You'll more likely find people considering "yuppy" derogatory (that one is never self-applied).
Redneck is not a term emerging from slave owners either.
