If it has no shot at passing, why are liberals so concerned about it?

.."liberals" (a term that I see you use for everyone opposite to you) are worried or concerned to the degree that the RR is.

My Opinion..

Default Hey Stek,

Back in the sixties, no one ever thought an amendment to the Constitution on abortion would pass. It took years, but the pro abortion people got it.
On a case, by the way, by a woman who is sorry she ever brought it before the supreme court. Ah, but she was young and foolish and this is just another case of abortion being a permanent solution to a temporary problem. How old would her kid be now?

Default gays and marriage need to be "fixed"

"And the Democrats reaction boils down to the fact that they do NOT want any of it fixed while a Republican is in office"

a very TELLING post.

backburner issue - especially since Falwell got no mention last night. Bush would lose the Republican women and modertae Republicans - it will never pass.

Because it allows them to mobilize their base just as it allows the right to mobilize the religious right.

Maybe I missed something or my copy of the Constitution is wrong, but what amendment is it exactly that they added to allow abortion? I don't see it.

Default Righto, Catz:

Yip. The Republican-leaning RR can all get all worked up over the (*)(*)(*)(*) and lesbos, while the Democrat-leaning gay rights crowd and "progressives" can get all worked up over the fascists in the White House trying to force religion down everyone's throat. The Amendment will get drafted maybe, but it isn't going anywhere.

Default Yup.

It is a smart move for W though, it allows him to give the appearance of doing something, energize the far right, but actually do nothing.

Default It's a nice political

move on his part. Since very few gay marriage supporters are Bush voters, he will not harm the Republicans in the mid-term elections. And he ensures the RR turn out in large numbers. A+.
