Who must share the responsibility of terrorists for the killed?
Why is that protracted Chechens oriented campaign in mass media? Is it designed to attract attention to the so called Chechen problem? But it’s non-issue. Why on the whole this ado about Chechnya? Is Afghanistan any better? Afghanistan is governed by foreigners, while Chechens have their own government they trusted power to in fair elections. Is Iraq any better? Military and civilians are dying at nasty rates in Iraq daily, while in Chechnya life is coming back to normal with most Chechens building new houses to live in, studying at schools and colleges, frequenting Internet-cafes, falling in love and raising kids. Sure, there is something in common with all these three countries. These are people of war, able to kill and destroy and nothing more. They are living by war. War is their way and their end both. People of this caliber is the curse of all mankind and not of separate countries or ethnical groups. And there are some media outlets serving them and thus joining this ‘Party of war without limits’. Al Jazzera belongs to them.
Channel-4 is at its pains to par the Kuwait TV company. That’s why it is feeding us up with the blood-smelling dish ‘Shamil Basaev’. Sure he is something special, ‘the best’ …. among the worst. He orchestrated the series of terror ‘operations’ in Russia (Dubrovka theatre siege, Moscow underground blasts, dual jet crashes, Beslan etc.). Does he feel himself responsible? Does he seek to change anything for the better? No, he does not. He is obsessed with the idea of new similar ‘heroic deeds’. Innocent civilians are to be victimized without any pangs of remorse.
Now won’t you tell me what kind of reaction you would have if the Russians should broadcast on one of their TV channels an interview with the, say, IRA or Al-Qaida leader who are planning on-camera their new evil deeds. How would you call it? Right answer - PROPAGANDA OF TERRORISM! Then why did nobody utter a word of protest after the largest British TV-channel gave the floor to the terrorist and hellkite Shamil Basaev?
Here comes another even more vexed question. Can it be that GB holds an interest in popularizing Chechen terrorism? Let me remind you that the American and Russian presidents are holding a meeting soon in Bratislava. The subject of the Chechen conflict can be used to make the position of Vladimir Putin more vulnerable.
The Great Britain is likely to be executing a political order of Washington to bring the Chechen conflict to masses in the media. Or there may be another point - London is disaffected with the growing contingence of the United States and Russia and is willing to drive a wedge between them. GB might be afraid of losing her seals as ‘a representative of American interests in EU’ for the concernment of the USA in the cooperation with Europe might decrease considerably after the two states start close partnership.
Anyway, there is one thing that threatens. In response to the growing interest to Chechen separatists in the West, they ALWAYS become more active and perform new even more murderous acts of terror. I would not like to start to think that the forces that bring up the Chechen problem are in a collusion with terrorists (while it is quite possible though). Still it is absolutely evident that it started to get really tough thanks to the people who put on the air the interview with Basaev on Channel-4 and published his statements in The Times and an obviously invited paper in Frankfurter Rundshau that is glorifying the “peace” initiative of another Chechen cutthroat Maskhadov. In case anything horrible happens afterwards, those who provided the terrorists with broadcasting time on TV and columns in newspapers must share their responsibility for the possible victims.
