I personally believe it belongs in a museum because if i was African American i would be offened by this and as american i am offended, this flag stood as a sign of rebellion to our great nation. And don't give me that its your heritage crap because that is not an excuse. That excuse is just for people to cause trouble for no reason. Because that also means your heritage is a rebelion, not something to be proud of.

Should arab-americans be allowed to show their flag? Afterall, the arab nations sided with the Axis in WWII.
How about those "african" medallions that were popular during the late 80s? African nations have not always been on the side of America. Can Japanese-Americans have any heritage icons? They attacked Pearl Harbor. Mexican-Americans? Remember the Alamo. Spainards? Remember the Maine. Should Americans speak english or sing the Star-Spangled Banner? English is the tongue used in Great Britian... and the Star-Spangled Banner is a British "pub" song... and remember Crispus Attuks.(sp?) Nice try.. or as we say in the south... "that dog won't hunt, boy"

Contrary to what many believe, the Confederate cause was about states' rights issues - not slavery. Consequently, their flag was never meant to be a symbol of slavery.
If people are offended, it is most likely because because of their own incorrect perceptions, not facts. Interestingly enough, a 1994 Harris poll revealed that over 2/3 of Black Americans had no problem with the Confederate flag. I wonder what that number would be today? |

History often confuses the result with the cause.

I think it should be removed from official use by government entities, in public spaces - such as being flown at a government building or used in a state seal, etc. It's hurtful, divisive and inappropriate. If an individual wants to display it or fly it on private property, that's their right. Actually, I'm all for that. I prefer it when the hateful and ignorant among us advertise themselves. .

"I wonder how many people who want to ban the Confederate flag would also call burning Old Glory a freedom of speech issue? "
OR How many people who are against burning the flag have no problem with the rebel flag? burning the flag is not treason but flying another flag is. |
