Firstly I do not how it is possible for the Taliban to be getting white phosphorous. Surely they would have access to more considering this 'chemical weapon' could only be procured from a fairly developed chemical warfare industry, not just a one off? Unless they are using captured NATO supplies, but I seriously doubt that. My guess is they are procuring this from a fairly developed state (if it is true). Maybe incognito from the Chinese, Russians, Pakistanis or Iranians? It's a scary claim.
Now for the US using it? Wouldn't surprise me if they 'let it rip' by accident. American air and artillery crews are notorious for shelling allied troops, so could they get their shells/bombs mixed up? Possibly but I'm pretty sure they would have received an order from a higher military officer. The US has used this chemical already many times in this war....
So ultimately I sadly expect American troops have used it again recently but the Taliban well that's a different story. This means the insurgency has gained a developed weapons supply which means a developed arms industry is arming them now. If they're getting bigger weapons then they will start launching more audacious attacks. Hopefully this 'Surge' can deal with it. The biggest problem here though is the fact that they have a developed weapons supplier. Whatever country this is, is the real enemy in this war.
