Drivers being caught by drug test
April 15, 2005
VICTORIA'S world first roadside drug tests have uncovered an alarming trend with one in every 73 drivers tested found to be under the influence of drugs.
Police Minister Tim Holding said police were alarmed and disappointed at the results.
"We are very concerned that the message is not getting through to Victorian motorists that if they take drugs and then get behind the wheel of a car or a truck they are a menace to themselves and to other road users," he said.
Since the random roadside saliva tests, which can detect cannabis or methamphetamines, were introduced four months ago, 4619 drivers have been tested with 63 returning positive results.
Mr Holding warned motorists that the drug bus would continue to carry out random tests on the streets of Melbourne.

i doubt too many people here, especially americans here would agree with this. what i find particuarly funny is that the title is "Drivers being caught by drug test" when out of 4619 only 63 were positive. and then take whatever out of that of being trace elements...rather than being under the influence of it.
i think it's laughable that they try to make it like drugs are killing people on the roads, and they concentrate on non-state approved drungs....yet they sponsor alcohol, the biggest killer - and coincidently, one of the biggest earners for the government.
........drugs are bad, m'kay"...unless it's socially acceptable and gives us money.
