Default Does anyone write or email their representative/senators?

I sent an email to Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, a Maryland Republican, even though I'm not one of his constituents. I just wanted to commend him for giving an hour-long speech in the House about the dangers we face regarding peak oil (he quoted www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net, where you can find a link to the CSPAN video). He even got a whopping half hour with the president to further discuss the issue.

Default I just wrote to George Voinovich

Not that it will do any good. He never answers calls. If he does answer my email it will be a form letter and he very rarely addresses his constituents. I have withdrawn my support for him not because he didn't like Bolton but because he didn't do his job and show up for the hearings and hijacked the whole process. He is an embarrassment to Ohioans and himself.

Default George Voinovich

Even though he's not my representative, I recently wrote George Voinovich to thank him for standing up and doing the right thing. A politician with a conscious, how about that! Voinovich put morals before his own ambitions. He broke with his party to do the right thing regardless of the outcome.

My wife is more of a letter-writer than I, but we both have gotten into the habit of firing off e-mails to public officials. We've written the Kerry campaign, both Minnesota senators, our local House representative, state legislative leaders, the governor and various others, like the state attorney general and the head of the state Dept. of Transportation.

The most thoughtful reply we got was from our House rep, Jim Ramstad. Which makes sense.

Default Just an FYI

I was doing some reading, and several "get involved" sites strongly discourage sending letters by US mail to congressmen. Ever since the anthrax scare, the USPS must thoroughly check all incoming mail...which can take up to three months.

I was initially going to send a letter as a formality, but those delays make it pointless.

We do it entirely by e-mail. They seem to get read, because we generally get personalized replies.

Default I know

It was just sort of a general public service announcement

I remember my neighbor wrote President Clinton 10 years back and they just sent him one of those pictures with the reproduced autographs on it. Thing is, the picture was actually pretty big...I mean who wants to hang that on their wall?

By not showing up to the committee meetings he wasted taxpayers dollars, time and made a jackass of himself and you applaud that?? He has no conscience if he did he would answer his constituents instead of ignoring them. We, in Ohio have been supporting him since he was the mayor of Cleveland and he repays us by embarrassing us. He will never get my vote again. On the other hand. If you want to look at someone who lives by his conscience look at Dennis Kucinich. Granted the man is a nut case but he lives what he believes and I like him because of that. I couldn't vote for him but I respect him. He does his job.

Your just mad because he doesn't like Bolton, therefore he is going against the president.
