I am against the Iraq war. For numerous reasons. But there are some fundamental issues she needs to come to grips with. First, the President can send troops anywhere for any purpose he wants. So her opinion vis a vis the war means little. He can send troops for "good" reasons or "bad" ones. Second, the Army circa 2005 is 100% volunteer. By joining the Army you are giving permission for the President to send you anywhere for any reason at all. Whether you like it or not. Third, the purpose of the Army is to fight in wars (or conflicts or police actions or whatever). In the process of doing that people will try and kill you. Sometimes they will succeed. That is a VERY well known occupational hazard to joining the Army.
Basically, she's mad about her son dying (which is understandable) and is looking for someone to blame. But she has no case. He was not drafted. He signed up. Further, Bush did not kill him as she claimed.

This woman DID meet with Bush over a year ago. Back then, she supported the war.
I cannot begin to understand her pain. My view is that she has been manipulated by those with her for their own political reasons. I am also against the war, have been from the start but this outcome was so predictable, but these dopey protests and manipulation of families who have lost sons and daughters is despicable. . . . |

also hi to stekim, barney and other old poster buddies. Had to take some time off from the political fires after the election. . . Glad to see you all are still at it. Catz, I keep thinking about you every time another hurrican pops up. I also think about your mom. My mom has cancer (liver, lungs from melanoma) and it is going to be tough. . ..
Right now, I am mostly incensed politically with the do nothings in our state legislature, who seem very happy to let our schools go down the toilet. |

don't think I could live happily in Texas. Our schools have, I think, gotten significantly better under Jeb.
I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. My mom is actually doing fairly well. She goes in for another evaluation for CF, and if her condition has worsened enough, she'll get some assistance with purchasing Tobi. She's had to switch to Tobrimycin which is less effective but also less expensive. How is everything else?

I still have a job, my son goes into fourth grade. My wife's bladder failed from the MS, but she is on a catheter and actually doing well. I serve on the board of a preschool for low income Hispanics now, and while it is very time consuming, it is also rewarding. We talked before how important a good start is to raising successful and happy children.
