Why only twenty? When you get ready to gather your data, be sure you don't pick and choose which ones to use.

Quote:
1. Everyone who lives in the US should be given an opportunity for free public education in the US through high school.
Yes. But, they should not be forced to go.
Quote:
2. Burning the American flag as a symbol of protest should be made unconstitutional.
No. But, burning a flag (or anything) on public property should be subject to other laws.
Quote:
3. Crime would decrease if every citizen over 18 owned a gun.
Not exactly. You see, criminals should not have guns.
Quote:
4. The US should change the Federal income tax rate so that everyone would pay a flat 23% of his/her salary to the govt.
No. I'm for abolishing the IRS, but I'm not sure this is the way to go.
Quote:
5. The drinking age should be lowered to 18.
I know exactly what I got away with when I was 18 (it was legal then) so I have to answer a resounding NO.
Quote:
6. The death penalty should be allowed in all cases involving murder and rape.
Yes. It should be allowed, but not mandatory.
Quote:
7. The pledge to the flag should be changed to take out the phrase "under god."
No. The way things stand now, people can say it if they want. Nobody has to.
Quote:
8. Supreme Court justices should have a mandatory retirement age of 80.
No. I don't think 80 is some kind of magic number.
Quote:
9. Abortions should be made illegal.
No. BUT, Roe vs. Wade should be thrown out and the power to regulate/restrict should be given to the individual states.
Quote:
10. Students in high school should be required to wear a uniform.
No. This kind of micromanagement belongs with an elected school board. No one else.

Default I'll play along...

1. Everyone who lives in the US should be given an opportunity for free public education in the US through high school. Yes, most definitely. I wish there was a way to get everyone a free college education, but I don't know if that's possible.

2. Burning the american flag as a symbol of protest should be made unconstitutional. No. I personally don't view flag burning as a proper way to protest, but the First Amendment does give the right to "to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." It's all about interpretation.

3. Crime would decrease if every citizen over 18 owned a gun. No, that would worsen the problem. Citizens that aren't interested in owning a gun would not learn about the weapon and that is just as dangerous.

4. The US should change the Federal income tax rate so that everyone would pay a flat 23% of his/her salary to the govt. No way. Our government is already bad with our finances, giving them more money would worsen the problem.

5. The drinking age should be lowered to 18. Yes, I agree. If you can get sued, go to jail or die for your country at 18, why can't you have a beer?

6. The death penalty should be allowed in all cases involving murder and rape. I'm undecided on this one. On one hand, I think that the death penalty should always be available for heinous crimes. On the other hand, I'm hesitant to give another, regular human being(s) the ability to determine who lives or dies...after all, that's what we're punishing murderers for.

7. The pledge to the flag should be changed to take out the phrase "under god." Yes, although our country was founded on Christian principles, we are a nation known to embrace diversity. The pledge has been changed a few times since it was written (the Knights of Columbus were responsible for having "under God" added to it in 1954). As a matter of fact, the original pledge did not mention God in it.

8. Supreme Court justices should have a mandatory retirement age of 80. No, what if someone was appointed at an age close to 80?

9. Abortions should be made illegal. I am personally against abortion unless the birth could affect the health of the mother or the pregnancy is a result of rape. I hate to see abortion being used as a contraceptive. But, legally speaking, I think you have to leave the choice up to the parents.

10. Students in high school should be required to wear a uniform. No, student's should be able to express themselves however they want as long as they are following the dress code.

Isn't this already the case?

Quote:
2. Burning the american flag as a symbol of protest should be made unconstitutional.
Hell no. It harms no one and therefore should be legal. Who give's a rat's ass if someone is offended? Get a life.

Quote:
3. Crime would decrease if every citizen over 18 owned a gun.
No. It would not.

Quote:
4. The US should change the Federal income tax rate so that everyone would pay a flat 23% of his/her salary to the govt.
No. There should not be an income tax at all.

Quote:
5. The drinking age should be lowered to 18.
Yes. Since 18 year olds can get married, buy a house, get sued, get a job, go to war, etc., I certainly think a beer is OK. It's funny that some people will trust 18 year olds to "protect American freedoms", but they don't trust them with a beer. Hilarious. AK-47? Fine. Rocket launcher? Sure. Budweiser? No. Really people. You crack me up.

Quote:
6. The death penalty should be allowed in all cases involving murder and rape.
Sure.

Quote:
7. The pledge to the flag should be changed to take out the phrase "under god."
Don't care. It is so meaningless as to simply not matter. Keep it in. Take it out. Whatever.

Quote:
8. Supreme Court justices should have a mandatory retirement age of 80.
Nope.

Quote:
9. Abortions should be made illegal.
Nope.

Quote:
10. Students in high school should be required to wear a uniform.
Nope.

1. Everyone who lives in the US should be given an opportunity for free public education in the US through high school.

Agreed, an educated populace is a significant economic benefit to all.

2. Burning the american flag as a symbol of protest should be made unconstitutional.

Disagreed, doing so is a violation of the right to free speech.

3. Crime would decrease if every citizen over 18 owned a gun.

Disagree. Convicted criminals should not be allowed to own a gun. However, crime has decreased in areas where concealed carry permits have been liberalized and made more accessible.

4. The US should change the Federal income tax rate so that everyone would pay a flat 23% of his/her salary to the govt.

Disagree. I prefer our current staggered income-level based system.

5. The drinking age should be lowered to 18.

Agreed...if you can die for our country you should be allowed to get drunk before doing it.

6. The death penalty should be allowed in all cases involving murder and rape.

Disagree. The death penalty is an extreme penalty that should be reserved for cases with special circumstances.

7. The pledge to the flag should be changed to take out the phrase "under god."

Agreed. This phrase was added back in the 1950s and is in conflict with the secular nature of our state.

8. Supreme Court justices should have a mandatory retirement age of 80.

Agreed. Hell, why stop at 80? I'd say it should be 70.

9. Abortions should be made illegal.

Disagree. But I would agree with putting further restrictions on abortion that are reflective of scientific advances since roe v. wade.

10. Students in high school should be required to wear a uniform.

Neither agree nor disagree. This is a local decision that should be made at local schools by parents.

1. Everyone who lives in the US should be given an opportunity for free public education in the US through high school.
Yes; education is key to a healthy society.

2. Burning the american flag as a symbol of protest should be made unconstitutional.
No; the flag is just a symbol.

3. Crime would decrease if every citizen over 18 owned a gun.
No; more guns would fall into the hands of criminals.

4. The US should change the Federal income tax rate so that everyone would pay a flat 23% of his/her salary to the govt.
No; the more a person makes, the more he/she should give back to society.

5. The drinking age should be lowered to 18.
Yes; if you can fight and die for your country, you should be able to belly up to the bar.

6. The death penalty should be allowed in all cases involving murder and rape.
No; our government should not sanction the killing of its own citizens, and life in prison is no better.

7. The pledge to the flag should be changed to take out the phrase "under god."
No; it would cause too much controversy over such a trivial thing, when we have so many important issues.

8. Supreme Court justices should have a mandatory retirement age of 80.
No; age should not be a factor.

9. Abortions should be made illegal.
No; that is a choice for the female and her partner (if applicable).

10. Students in high school should be required to wear a uniform.
No; homogenization is not the answer.

No. I don't see how giving criminals guns would reduce crime.
Quote:

Maybe. I am convinced the tax system needs a major overhaul, but not convinced this is the best way to do it.
Quote:
5. The drinking age should be lowered to 18.
Yes. An adult is an adult. If you're old enough to vote and die for your country, you're old enough to have a beer before you head off for war.
Quote:
6. The death penalty should be allowed in all cases involving murder and rape.
No. Many, but certainly not all cases.
Quote:

Meh. I can see the argument from both sides, I personally don't care one way or the other.

No. That's age discrimination.

No. Abortion should be illegal except for health reasons after the fetus has a reasonable chance of living outside the womb.
Quote:
10. Students in high school should be required to wear a uniform.
No. Only the ones in marching band.
