1. Everyone who lives in the US should be given an opportunity for free public education in the US through high school. Yes, most definitely. I wish there was a way to get everyone a free college education, but I don't know if that's possible.
2. Burning the american flag as a symbol of protest should be made unconstitutional. No. I personally don't view flag burning as a proper way to protest, but the First Amendment does give the right to "to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." It's all about interpretation. 3. Crime would decrease if every citizen over 18 owned a gun. No, that would worsen the problem. Citizens that aren't interested in owning a gun would not learn about the weapon and that is just as dangerous. 4. The US should change the Federal income tax rate so that everyone would pay a flat 23% of his/her salary to the govt. No way. Our government is already bad with our finances, giving them more money would worsen the problem. 5. The drinking age should be lowered to 18. Yes, I agree. If you can get sued, go to jail or die for your country at 18, why can't you have a beer? 6. The death penalty should be allowed in all cases involving murder and rape. I'm undecided on this one. On one hand, I think that the death penalty should always be available for heinous crimes. On the other hand, I'm hesitant to give another, regular human being(s) the ability to determine who lives or dies...after all, that's what we're punishing murderers for. 7. The pledge to the flag should be changed to take out the phrase "under god." Yes, although our country was founded on Christian principles, we are a nation known to embrace diversity. The pledge has been changed a few times since it was written (the Knights of Columbus were responsible for having "under God" added to it in 1954). As a matter of fact, the original pledge did not mention God in it. 8. Supreme Court justices should have a mandatory retirement age of 80. No, what if someone was appointed at an age close to 80? 9. Abortions should be made illegal. I am personally against abortion unless the birth could affect the health of the mother or the pregnancy is a result of rape. I hate to see abortion being used as a contraceptive. But, legally speaking, I think you have to leave the choice up to the parents. 10. Students in high school should be required to wear a uniform. No, student's should be able to express themselves however they want as long as they are following the dress code. |

1. Everyone who lives in the US should be given an opportunity for free public education in the US through high school.
Agreed, an educated populace is a significant economic benefit to all. 2. Burning the american flag as a symbol of protest should be made unconstitutional. Disagreed, doing so is a violation of the right to free speech. 3. Crime would decrease if every citizen over 18 owned a gun. Disagree. Convicted criminals should not be allowed to own a gun. However, crime has decreased in areas where concealed carry permits have been liberalized and made more accessible. 4. The US should change the Federal income tax rate so that everyone would pay a flat 23% of his/her salary to the govt. Disagree. I prefer our current staggered income-level based system. 5. The drinking age should be lowered to 18. Agreed...if you can die for our country you should be allowed to get drunk before doing it. 6. The death penalty should be allowed in all cases involving murder and rape. Disagree. The death penalty is an extreme penalty that should be reserved for cases with special circumstances. 7. The pledge to the flag should be changed to take out the phrase "under god." Agreed. This phrase was added back in the 1950s and is in conflict with the secular nature of our state. 8. Supreme Court justices should have a mandatory retirement age of 80. Agreed. Hell, why stop at 80? I'd say it should be 70. 9. Abortions should be made illegal. Disagree. But I would agree with putting further restrictions on abortion that are reflective of scientific advances since roe v. wade. 10. Students in high school should be required to wear a uniform. Neither agree nor disagree. This is a local decision that should be made at local schools by parents.

1. Everyone who lives in the US should be given an opportunity for free public education in the US through high school.
Yes; education is key to a healthy society. 2. Burning the american flag as a symbol of protest should be made unconstitutional. No; the flag is just a symbol. 3. Crime would decrease if every citizen over 18 owned a gun. No; more guns would fall into the hands of criminals. 4. The US should change the Federal income tax rate so that everyone would pay a flat 23% of his/her salary to the govt. No; the more a person makes, the more he/she should give back to society. 5. The drinking age should be lowered to 18. Yes; if you can fight and die for your country, you should be able to belly up to the bar. 6. The death penalty should be allowed in all cases involving murder and rape. No; our government should not sanction the killing of its own citizens, and life in prison is no better. 7. The pledge to the flag should be changed to take out the phrase "under god." No; it would cause too much controversy over such a trivial thing, when we have so many important issues. 8. Supreme Court justices should have a mandatory retirement age of 80. No; age should not be a factor. 9. Abortions should be made illegal. No; that is a choice for the female and her partner (if applicable). 10. Students in high school should be required to wear a uniform. No; homogenization is not the answer. |
