Default My parents were quite liberal when I was young..

but as they get older they're getting a little conservative on some issues, especially gay marriage and such. But on the whole they are still nice and liberal....

Default more liberal...but that's changing

I am more liberal than my parents are...but my political views are shaped in particular by my dad's involvement in environmental conservation.

My mom, on the other hand, is becoming more and more liberal. Or rather, she is becoming political. These days, anyone who doesn't like Bush, wants to protect the environment and supports equal human rights is considered liberal. What's up with that?

If anything, my parents taught me to be compassionate...which would make me liberal, apparently.

Default .

I don't know anything about my parents political views except that they voted for W in 2000, but if I had to guess I'd say that I'm more liberal than my dad, more conservative than my mom.

<time for a rant>

I suppose I am more conservative, but both my 'rents and my MIL are just, well, messed up.

Both parents and mom-in-law vote the way they "always have" regardless of the issues or the candidate's stand on anything. They go on and on spouting off about some very conservative ideas that they belive in, then they go ahead and vote for the liberal (read: Democratic, usually) candidate. My mom is probably the most thoughtful of the bunch.

And, no, I do not go into the booth and vote Repub all of the time.

<rant = end>

Default Liberal?

No one defined liberal. I'm a classic liberal while my parents are conservative. This means that I value small government in economics, and small government in personal areas. I consider my self more "liberal" in both areas than them, but only because I define liberal in relation to liberty. As far as republican/democratic definitions of modern liberals and conservatives I am more of a modern conservative in economics, and more of a modern liberal in personal aspects. However, neither of these are accurate descriptions of my views. The best description is that I am a classical liberal, and thus am more truly liberal than both, instead of being more communistically liberal than both. I stay true to John Locke rather than John Rawles, which makes me pretty much the exact opposite from modern liberals, and far closer to modern conservatives... however I marked Somewhat Liberal, because I refuse to define myself as a conservative simply because I differ from modern liberals. I am more "classically" liberal. This of course will probably screw up the poll. That's okay though. The poll should have been more clear. ( In other words I am a more die hard republican than my parents are, but I marked that I am more liberal, because republicans are more classically liberal than modern liberal democrats.)

Just because you don't like him doesn't mean he's a disgrace. As PM, he has been about as socialist as possible (in clear consistency with the LABOUR party) but has had a foreign policy objectable to liberals. Suddenly that makes him a disgrace.

It's about time you pick apart his decisions rather that simply brand him as a disgrace. That's an ad hominem argument and it's a fallacy.

All I can say is, its a shame I'm not voting age because I couldn't agree with you more, do you think that Tony is trying to be thrown out?

I have a bet on with my aunty (whos best friend works for Labour) that Labour will crash and burn, at the moment it feels like a safe bet to me. Anything I should know about?

Default Slightly more conservative

My family is mainly working class. But they are also very conservative in terms of their work ethic. My parents always taught me never to rely on anyone but myself, to work hard and to make something for myself. Excuses are just ways of trying to blame shift. And I have to say, it has worked both in their lives and in my life as well. My parents were both the firts to graduate from college in their families. They both also have advanced degrees. I am about to graduate with my BS soon and plan on going to graduate school.

Not bad for a family that has historically always worked in factories or done other blue collar work!

Default Fair enough

I agree, it is up to you how well you do in your own lives but as to the government, we each vote for the party who says they will do what we think is the best for us, but on the Labour party have come into power and the promises thay have fulfilled (the minority) they have done through cost cutting and raising taxes. They have failed to fulfil most of the promises they made and have now begun doing things that weren't in the manifesto, they are now holding a refurendum on Europe to try and boost support for Mr Blair, it has worked before but now its blatantly obvious that he has lost the support of the public and in some cases his own party, when will he take a hint and *use your imagination* off!
