Default Should Bush be Impeached??

Let's see, Clinton was impeached fairly recently for lying in court about having sexual relations with a woman other than his wife. Okay, fair enough. One should never lie to a judge.

Now, what about Bush?

First, he started what many people consider to be an illegal war under the false pretense that our enemy possessed weapons of mass destruction, causing the deaths of almost 2,000 young Americans for a war that still has no clear causes.

Second, he takes outrageously long vacations while troops that he ordered to fight are dying in the deserts of Iraq and telling Americans that "we have to make sacrifices."

Third, he showed his incompetency as a leader during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Now, if we are to hold Bush to the high standards that we held Clinton, doesn't he deserve at least an impeachment investigation?Or is it only Republicans these days who are interested in kicking people out of the oval office?[/u]

Default Nay

I don't think Clinton should have been impeached. Why should we have another kind of circus like that with Bush? I think some of his advisors should be tossed. But our nation would only become more ridiculous if we started a trend of impeachment every 8 years.

Default Quite ignorant of you...

Your argument holds no merit in any way. The war in Iraq, whether considered illegal or not, is not punishable in the court of the United States. As a matter of fact, it is not punishable in any court - including the World Court, the ICC, or the ICJ. Clinton lied under oath in the US Federal Court, a major difference. The notion that the war is illegal is more of a guided opinion of the international community as voted by the UN General Assemby, which operates only to provide non-binding solutions. The allegations that the President does nothing and takes vacations instead of taking action in times of political distress is quite ignorant of you, but either way it is not illegal - so what is the basis of your proposed impeachment? I would also like to extend a question your way: What, specifically, could Bush do or have done better in response to Hurricane Katrina.

He did so with the consent of Congress though. So no, that is not grounds for impeachment. He did not circumvent the system.

The rest of that is subjective anyway. A lot of people do not agree that the war had "no clear cause" for example.

Why is that impeachable?

Again, an opinion. Even assuming your opinion is correct, bad decisions are not a reason for impeachment.

Impeachment is not a tool to use to punish President's whose decisions you dont like.

Not unless you can provide a valid reason for one. For the record, I didnt agree with Clinton's impeachment either. But Clinton really did lie...no one has been able to show evidence that Bush lied about anything.

To JavaBlack, good point, we really would look pretty stupid if we impeached another president only 8 years later.

To park, I understand most of your post and even agree, but as for your last question, I think at the very least, Bush should have ended his vacation before the hurricane hit to meet with his administration and discuss possible worst case scenarios and how to solve them. Instead, he was riding around his ranch on his bicycle trying to attract the attention of the press like a 5 year old boy yelling, "Look Daddy! I can ride a bicycle!"

To sadistic-savior, excellent post. Can't argue with anything you said.

Thanks everyone so far for the thoughts and opinions.

Well, I guess it isn't, but man, it makes me so mad!

I want Ashcroft and Ridge out of their posts. We have an oil executive and an absent-minded former governor (I live in PA, so I know) in charge of "defending" our country. Bush is not a bad guy, I think his advisors are just feeding him crap to say on TV. They're putting an "average" American on TV saying this stuff, to appeal to the "average" American. In a way, Bush is like the Milli/Vanilli of presidents
