Are all states of the world equal, or are some better than others?

For example: Is the USA equal to Sudan, is England equal to Chile, is China equal to Australia, or are they not equal because one is more developed or morally superior?

I voted "no" on the basis that although I see all ethnic groups and the superficial elements of culture in all nations as being equal, it cannot be doubted that ignorance such as is enforced, for example, in Communist countries, contributes to moral problems.

Its quit simple America and the west are by far superior to all over civilizations. The west is a superior culture, now countries like Japan which have completely become westernized but still have their traditional ideals I consider part of the west even though they where once "the east" they are mostly a western culture now. Simply the west is the best.

There is always hope, as long as one can think.

Cultures, perhaps (if unequal, not to any extent we can quantify)... States, absolutely not. Sudan is not an equal to the US in economic progress or the rights of the citizens within.

If by "the West", rockyreagan was referring to European values as exported to America (pardon that, I'm debating trade policy with stekim), I would have to disagree. Traditional values among the Navajo and nearby tribes, for example, are far better than the valuelessness that so sadly dominates the governments of Sweden, Denmark and The Netherlands (I am half Dutch, by the way).

for a mather of the people woh live in it,they are equal completely....the goverments are not equal.....every country who isn't democrat should not be considered eqal to a state who is,for the simple reason that they do not respect the civil right of thier citizens,and should not be treated any better that they treat thier citizens.

Since there is no generally acknowledged agreement on what values would comprise a definition of "best", the most we can say about the situation is that "Western Civilization" may be the most dominant. Since winners write the history then let them opine. If China should overtake the aging Western ways they will be free to make the same claim.

Every Culture or region/state has had slavery, the west is no different from China or Africa or Native America, what is different is that it was the West that changed it and eventually made it illegal drawing greatly from the teachings of the Bible (New Testament not old).

The west adopted more of a Capitalistic Nature faster, this put the individual ahead of the group, yet western tradition still made it so Western Man was accountable and had responsibility towards his friends and family. The rest of the cultures in the world for the most part was still dominated by a feudal society.

It was the west that first began to recognize the rights of man before any other (Athens).

It has been the West, after the fall of Islam that has picked up the slack and gone forward with the Industrial Age and alter the Technological ctr, that has pushed us to new heights. We landed on the moon, cured a disease (polio) learned to fly first, invented the car, invented the telephone, first to use plumbing (Rome), and on and on. Most of the things that surround your house was invented in the west, as well as many of the ideas you propose, and believe.
