This test shows with which of ten American political ideologies you are most compatible. You'll have to pretend that we haven't invaded Iraq yet for question #8, by the way. This is the link, followed by my results (Warning: You may have to stomach some indecent ads- selectsmart isn't always socially responsible):
http://www.selectsmart.com/FREE/select.php?client=zeron #1 Libertarian #2 Left-libertarian #3 Centrist #4 Third Way #5 Neoconservative #6 Paleo-libertarian #7 Conservative #8 Radical #9 Liberal #10 Paleoconservative I think that this is accurate except that I think "Third Way" should be #9 and "Neoconservative" should be #10. I appreciate all replies. Thank you very much.

A Third-Wayer is someone who is a pro-business fiscal moderate, moderately hawkish and socially liberal. Examples include Tony Blair and Bill Clinton.

1. Libertarian
2. Left-libertarian 3. Radical 4. Neo-conservative 5. Centrist 6. Third Way 7. Conservative 8. Liberal 9. Paleo-libertarian 10. Paleo-conservative Well at least "paleo-conservative" is where it belongs! I think #1 and #2 are mixed up, as well as #4 and #6. I found some of the questions dumb... like the "save social security" one. It doesn't give any HOW.

Writing only for myself, as much as I dislike his "culture war" and anti-gay rhetoric, I would vote for Pat Buchanan over George W. Bush by a mile. That is because I see a Big Brother-like, bloated military state as a greater threat to civil liberties than social conservatives. Moreover, since paleoconservatives would actually shrink government, they couldn't do much to enforce their social conservatism (economic and social freedom are inseparable). Plus, neoconservatives use social conservatism to appease the Religious Right anyway, so I see no advantages to the New Right as opposed to the Old Right. In a side note, I suppose that I am on the "Old Left". I can't find any points of agreement with neoconservatives and I find very few with Third Wayers.

Ideology-wise I much prefer neo-cons over paleo-cons. Neo-cons reject racism and religious supremacy for the most part and have a genuine feeling that democracy must be spread. My full disagreement with them is in the "ends justify the means" mentality and the lengths their campaign people will go to to get their people elected and sell their policies...
But paleo-cons have dangerous ideals. While their refusal to use slimy methods so far renders them a neutered threat, I'm not fond of their nationalist fundamentalist core. I'd support Bush over Buchanon for that reason alone... but I'd rather not vote for either. Even when I agree with Buchanon, the reasoning is alien. Reason is what pushes policies forward.
