Default Liberal vs. Conservative Quiz

I do like the way in which this test separates issues, since it does seem, for example, that foreign policy hawks tend to be supportive of the law and order agenda. It focuses too much on fiscal issues, though, so it puts me on the right even though I belong left of center:

http://www.blogthings.com/howliberal...iveareyouquiz/

Your Political Profile:
Overall: 65% Conservative, 35% Liberal
Social Issues: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal
Personal Responsibility: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal
Fiscal Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal
Ethics: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal
Defense and Crime: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal

The propositions are "either, or", so you'll have to choose which statement you are closer to agreeing with even if you don't fully agree with either. I appreciate all replies. Thank you very much.

This is a crappy test.
I didn't like either answer for a few of them.
The worst one was the first:
Quote:
Protecting the environment is a primary social responsibility we have, regardless of how it effects businesses.
The use of "social responsibility" to me does not necessarily imply government sanctions. This question also assumes that there is a dichotomy between the environment and economy in which the two are mutually exclusive.
Quote:
If you smoke marijuana...
You should be punished with a slap on the wrist
It's your business
Though I agree with the second choice, I think the two choices are limiting and dumb. They should be two extremes if they are going to be dichotomous.
Quote:
The problem with the US justice system is:
Too many plea bargains and loose interpretations of law
Not enough rehabilitation and prisoner's rights
I really didn't agree with either.

Just overall really bad questions.

That is true of nearly all "either, or" propositions. I frequently didn't fully agree with either proposition, but I chose the one that was closer to my viewpoint from a political perspective. For example, while I am personally pro-environment, I don't support the government taking the primary role in environmental protection, since I consider this unnecessary and counterproductive. Accordingly, I answered "not exactly". I think that this test will separate neocons from hardcore conservatives with its separation of social and defense/crime issues, though.

I believe why I hate that environment question so much is because I think taking care of the environment is a social responsibility. That doesn't mean I approve of it being a government responsibility. Same goes with the corporate responsibility question... but what makes the environment one worse is that being responsibile for the environment does not necessarily mean hurting the economy.

In the long term, what benefits the environment benefits the economy, and that is why free-market environmentalism will work. Some socialistic types don't see it that way, though.
