A violent beating in Norfolk is caught on tape. The 13 year-old victim and his family believe the attack could have been racially motivated.

The victim in this case is a 13 year-old white boy, Damien O'Rourke. The group who attacked him is made up of all African American teenagers. Damien and his family believe the teens may have picked the fight because Damien is white.

"I was going to play football with my friends. The next thing I know when I got there, there was like, seven black kids who said they were going to beat me up and they started beating me up," says Damien.

Damien and his family say the violent fight was unprovoked.

"They were kicking me and punching me in the face. They weren't aiming for nothing except my face."

Damien and his family just moved to the area thinking it'd be a nice place to live.

"We don't know what we're going to do now because we can't even let our kid go outside and play," says Reesha Price, Damien's mother.

Reesha says she got the call Saturday afternoon saying Damien was badly beaten just blocks away from their home. When she reached her 13 year-old son, her heart broke. She saw a bloodied and swollen face.

"He was dazed. It makes your stomach hurt. It makes your stomach hurt. There's no, I mean I was just thanking God his head wasn't split open."

Damien says kids at his new school, including one of the kids involved in the fight, treated him badly for a time because he is white. Now his family believes their skin color could have been what led to the first punch being thrown.

"I do kind of think it was racist. I think if he was black he wouldn't have gotten beat up like that," says Reesha.

We saw Norfolk police interviewing people in the area of the fight and they said their Gang Unit will get in touch with the family Monday morning. In the meantime, Damien is planning to go to school on Monday.

Sound like a bunch of chicken poo poo attacked this lone kid considering it was seven against one. I would say to get these seven animals and let bloodthirsty Bush and Cheney have them to send over there and die for that oilhole that mean so much to them.

What the hell do thirteen-year-olds have to beat each other bloody over?

I don't understand bullies. What's the point? What does having seven guys beat up one guy prove? That you can't fight even one guy without six friends backing you up? That they're irrationally scared of this one kid for some reason?

I think the parents need to take some responsibility here. And if they won't, then the law should hold them responsible. People should be able to teach their kids better than that.

There is a reason this case has been referred to the gang squad. durr.

Who in the hell caught this on videotape and didn't intervene?

My opinion?

1. Was a gang initiation, not an unprovoked fight (hence the handy video camera).
2. White victim has pre-existing gang ties.
3. Was a planned attack (hence the handy video camera).

To me, this boy (the victim) looks gang affiliated. Just my gut, mind you.

Is a "gang" fight somehow supposed to be better? In other words, were the Jena 6 gang members, you mean Jesse and Al wouldn't have gone there to stir things up?

The WHITE boy who filmed it said it was supposed to be a planned fight between one black kid and a white kid for the internet but it got out of hand - his mom actually said it was a GANG thing not race - as seen on Hannity.

It was so funny to see Hannity try to make it a a race thing but it wouldn't work. The boy who filmed it can now also be charged.

This kid was just minding his own business and 6 black thugs jumped him for no reason other than he was white. Don't you know white kids don't join gangs only black thugs participate in that kind of activity.

Don't worry though the LAW will make sure these black thugs go away for along time as well they should.

The problem is that no matter what or who started the fight, you have 6-7 guys beating up one. If any of those 7 are over 18, it's even worse. Talk about cowards, 7 against a 13 year old? Sheesh.

I think what catz is trying sat is that Damien, the white boy, was willing to be beaten. In order to join a gang, one often has to go through a hazing process that usually involves getting their ass kicked by other gang members. It's supposed to prove that they are tough. It's very possible that Damien was trying to join a gang, but lied about it when his mom showed up, so now it's a hate crime.
